The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, commonly known as the Kennedy Center, will be renamed the “Trump-Kennedy Center,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday.
The prestigious Washington, D.C., cultural center’s board of trustees, who were appointed by President Donald Trump in February, “have just voted unanimously” on the name change, Leavitt said in an X post.
They did so “because of the unbelievable work President Trump has done over the last year in saving the building,” Leavitt said.
“Congratulations to President Donald J. Trump, and likewise, congratulations to President Kennedy, because this will be a truly great team long into the future! The building will no doubt attain new levels of success and grandeur,” she said.
Leavitt’s depiction of a center that has been saved “not only from the standpoint of its reconstruction, but also financially, and its reputation” contrasts with reporting from multiple news outlets that ticket sales and staffing both have sharply declined this year.
The New York Times reported last month that internal figures showed ticket sales during a typical week in October down by about 50% from the same period a year earlier.
The Washington Post, which analyzed sales data from early September through Oct. 19, found an “across-the-board drop-off” in ticket sales for the center’s three largest performance spaces.
Trump, who named himself chairman of the Kennedy Center weeks after taking office, signaled in October that the name change was forthcoming.

I’m not big on building statues or naming things after living people.
Babylon Bee, yes?
I’d rather he and Melania started something new, than re-name something that’s already been around so long.
“I’m not big on building statues or naming things after living people.”
I’ll make an exception for Trump.
Agreed.
I wouldn’t mind the new ballroom being named after Trump - he’s the one who conceived and is building it.
NOT the “Kennedy-Trump Center”!
A little troll bait for the media figgers to go ape over just in time for Christmas.
Two things:
1) If it pisses off the commies, it’s worth it.
B) Who asked you?
Dang. I wish I had a buck for every unsolicited opinion that pops up here.
I could build my own performing arts center.
No.
An utterly futile decision, it achieves nothing.
A name can be so easily changed once again in the future anyway... If the Dems win will they rename it the “Obama-Kennedy Center”? Ridiculous.
It’s a waste of time to even think about such unimportant issues.
OTOH, adding a head to Mt. Rushmore...
How about a batch rename of everything in West Virginia named for Klansman Byrd to Trump.
What gripes me is when a guy has been a governor or president or senator or whatever but is no longer in that office that the media and others keep calling them by their former position.
For example, yesterday, when Fanni Willis was being questioned, she was represented by a former governor and the questioner (dumb on his part IMO) kept calling him “governor”. The SOB, Roy Eugene Barnes, hasn’t been governor in Georgia for 22 years! It’s not his title; it belongs to the state and that’s owned by the people!
Another thing that sucks is that people like Fanni Willis believe that once they are in an office they own it. She was a total beech yesterday. It was VERY obvious that she believes that she OWNS her office, that it’s her property and she can do with it anything she pleases. What she was pleased to do was go after Trump and I bet she is very wealthy today or someone close to her is because of that.
Bunch of parasites.
I hope the new Whitehouse ballroom will be named the Melania Room after most elegant First Lady.
The fact that it will make il-liberal heads explode is a bonus.
It is supposed to be a living memorial to JFK. Bad move.
I was thinking of two instances, “Brendan Byrne Arena” named after the unpopular sitting NJ governor who was unlikely to have anything named after him when he died, and “Bishop Reilly Hall”, a double wide temporary classroom building put up in Cromwell, Connecticut at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in a transparent effort to curry favor with the Norwich Diocese Bishop. I believe it had the opposite effect, like naming a New Jersey Rest Area after someone, as the building was a cheap doublewide trailer to deal with overflow.
It has always been the custom for previous office holders to be addressed by the highest office they held. It’s not anything new or political, it’s just a tradition respecting past service, and the etiquette and usage have been used for a long time.
