Multiple people are feared dead after a private jet crashed and exploded into flames on Thursday at a North Carolina airport frequented by NASCAR teams and Fortune 500 companies.
The Cessna C550 plane went down at Statesville Regional Airport at about 10:15 a.m, authorities said.
Footage shot by WSOC-TV captured the aircraft entirely engulfed in flames as emergency crews rushed onto the runway.
It wasn’t immediately clear how many were onboard but the local sheriff’s office said there were a number of fatalities.
The airport is owned by the city and “provides corporate aviation facilities for Fortune 500 companies and several NASCAR teams,” according to its website.
The Federal Aviation Administration was en route to probe the fiery wreck.

Yes, I think by now if Greg Biffle was not on board he would be calling in about it. Very sad. I watched videos of him helping the hurricane Helene victims in NC. He was a good guy.
So an attempt at an emergency landing.
Caught heck for it too, IIRC. Sad.

The Cessna Citation II had just taken off, a loud noise was heard by those on the ground, and the plane attempted to quickly land again.
Heartbreaking.

Greg Biffle, his wife, and his children were on board.
You always want to pray for survivors when something like this happens, but the chances are so negligible. We just have to pray that it happened so fast that those sweet children felt no pain or fear

I was just watching one of his YouTube videos. Great driver who seemed like a genuinely nice guy in life, too.
I was sad when he retired from NASCAR. And I’m even more sad now.

Biffle is a licensed pilot, so he may have been flying the plane.
