The EU looks set to scrap a landmark 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel cars on Tuesday, as part of a package of reforms aimed at supporting Europe's embattled auto industry.
Carmakers and their backers have lobbied hard for Brussels to relax the ban over the past year – in the face of fierce competition from China and a slower-than-expected shift to electric vehicles (EVs).
Set in 2023, the ban was a cornerstone of the EU's environmental Green Deal, which has come under increased pressure from businesses and right-wing politicians as the EU seeks to bolster its industry.

Ban the Eeeeeyyyywwww.
I already didn’t buy another Euro car 2 years ago in part because the brand I liked went all in on EVs, said they would do no more ICE development. They’ve since reversed that, but I don’t trust them going forward, and already went elsewhere.
Holy cow! The EU admitting they made a bad decision!! I never thought I’d live to see it!
VW to end production at plant in Germany for 1st time in 88 years
So the ban for 12 years into the future only lasted 2 years?
Hahahahahahahaha!!!!
Everyone involved in the implementation of the ban needs to be fired and forced to pay back the losses.
You haven’t.
I’d call this more of a modified limited hangout.
Alot of Americans probably realized a bad decision had been made about the time the first EV rolled off the assembly line. I had wod worked at a dealership ( brand name withheld) some years ago before retiring about the time these EVs started being built. Had one stored in the shop for someone & learned of one of it’s “frailties” the day the owners came after it. The battery was depleted in storage because it’s charge was depleted. It was depleted because the charge was used to maintain battery temp when idle. This was not known at the time & we deidn’t have a charger for it at the time. After that incident, many “frailties” were learned about EVs. I don’t know if they still function that way or not. I know I’ll never own one.
lol
European cars are some of the worst you can buy. Everyone I know that has one is always having problems with it. Once the warranty expires they become money pits. When I'm looking for a new vehicle I don't even consider anything from a European manufacturer.

Imagine The Tremendous Negative Impact On The Environment By Car Companies Rushing To Build EV cars No One Wants

Also...it can get mighty cold in Europe during the winter. I suspect that they’re rethinking their decision to shut down nuke plants some time ago.
To sum up, the Environmental movement (commie) forced EV mandates, the car companies chased the golden ring of the emerging Chinese car market. The Chinese were too smart for them, mandating plants, and Chinese ownership. So Europeans taught the Chinese how to build cars, how to sell cars and how to ship cars to Europe, which would sell. Thus the Germans killed their car companies and economy.
Too late to save it boys.
The Germans make good reliable Italian cars . . .
Seriously, if you like a driver’s car, they do good work. But you’re not wrong on the unreliability aspects.
Green energy policies and cutting itself off from cheap Russian oil and gas has destroyed the auto industry in Germany and other EU countries.
VW-Porsche-Audi and MB gave the EU the finger.
The move to EV has done critical damage to Porsche.
