Trump unsure whether impact of economic policies will be felt in time for midterms, WSJ reports

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed uncertainty about whether Republicans would keep control of the House of Representatives in next year's midterm elections because some of his economic policies have yet to take full effect, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

Trump, in an interview conducted on Friday, told the Journal, "I can’t tell you. I don’t know when all of this money is going to kick in," when asked about the whether Republicans would lose the House in November.

The White House did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

The president has argued that his economic policies, including his imposition of widespread tariffs on imports, are creating jobs, boosting the stock market and attracting increased investment into the United States.

After campaigning last year on promises to tame inflation, Trump has in recent weeks alternated between dismissing affordability problems as a hoax, blaming President Joe Biden for them, and promising his economic policies will benefit Americans next year.

"I think by the time we have to talk about the election, which is in another few months, I think our prices are in good shape," Trump said in the interview.

Last month the president rolled back tariffs on more than 200 food products in the face of growing angst among American consumers about the high cost of groceries.

The president did not say whether he would lower tariffs on additional goods, the Journal reported.

Trump's overall approval rating edged up to 41 percent in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll but the approval rating on his performance on the cost of living was just 31 percent.

Democrats have won a string of victories in state and local elections in Virginia, New Jersey and New York City, where growing voter concerns about affordability, including high food prices, were a key topic.

If there aren't a couple hundred 2020 election thieves, J6 hoaxers and DOGE embezzlers in prison by midterms, it's all over.

The American public is impatient, and ignorant. That concerns me.

The economy matters.

Exposing Democrat corruption matters more.

The DOJ isn’t helping Trump.

I agree.

If we lose the House in 2026, it will be a disaster. Trump will be impeached over and over and they will do everything to destroy MAGA. They will paralyze the country. They would prefer ruling over the ashes rather than be defeated.

Much of it was caused by Bidenomics so it wasn't Trump's fault. That said, he was elected to focus on this country. America First.

It is a good thing that Trump is trying to end the war in Ukraine. But he was not elected on his pledge to bring peace to Ukraine.

There is a monopoly in the beef industry.

Tyson, Cargill, JBS, and National Beef controlling about 80-85% of the market. Why not do something about that?

This is why the FED chair Powell has been stalling economic progress as much as possible.

Imagine a corporate marketing executive complaining that the public is just not ready for their product—so they should not get fired for poor results.

Their boss will explain “Well somebody is going to fix this problem. The only question is whether it is you or somebody else.”

Amazingly—most of the time the problem gets fixed.

Lol.

America First.>>> But Trump didn’t help by the erratic implementation of the tariffs. They may be working but they may also add to inflation. My Portfolio of Bonds, Gold and international stocks is doing great but it doesn’t point to a good domestic economy.

Exactly right. People want goodies now, not “someday.” They forget month old news and say “what have you done for me lately?”

I’m as pro-Trump as someone can get but he has to realize the public doesn’t care about his genuine help for world peace abroad, few can locate any countries on a world map, and they want prices to stop increasing right now, despite the long term good for jobs that tariffs can do. They can’t soberly assess the result of tariffs over long stretches.

Used to MTV, video games, quick internet search replies and texts within a few seconds from friends.

They say the Vietnam War was so quickly turned against because people at home were used to 30 or 60 minute TV dramas with a firm conclusion. A month after month war that stretched into years was too long for them.

1- this is the WSJ. Their people hate Trump and they are also hard hit by reverse immigration. Which is going to happen

Why is anyone paying any attention to more than the headline here?

2- no one can convince me that President Trump is not aware of anything the Journalist or we have to say.

Yup—there is no such thing as a good foreign policy as far as most voters are concerned.

There are only bad ones.

It is a total waste of time trying to score foreign policy points.

At least get some construction work going, like shuttered factor build outs and mining work started. Get the rust belt working again.

And that’s why I favor a “tariff bonus” direct to citizens. To those who say “pay down the debt first!” I say, if we can’t retain control between the GOP and the Democrats the country will make Biden’s mess look miniscule by comparison and the debt will be the least of our problems.

The American public is impatient, and ignorant. That concerns me.>>. True but it doesn’t help for Trump to oversell the positives which are not really there yet. the 600,000 new jobs is PA was fabricated. PA has lost 200,000 for the last year and no interest rate reduction is going to help that. Deregulation and recission packages should be sent to house daily. Vance should be doing the legislative work and is not. What is he doing.
