ERUSALEM, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Israel's cabinet has decided to give legal status to 19 settlements in the occupied West Bank, including two that were vacated 20 years ago under a pullout aimed at boosting the country's security and the economy, Israeli media reported.
The Palestinian Authority on Friday condemned the move, announced late on Thursday.
Some of the settlements are newly established, while others are older, Israeli media said. The move to legalise the settlements in the West Bank -- territory Palestinians seek for a future state -- was proposed by far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Most world powers deem Israel's settlements, on land it captured in a 1967 war, illegal. Numerous U.N. Security Council resolutions have called on Israel to halt all settlement activity.

Aren’t the true “settlers” the ones who moved in starting in the seventh century and started getting rid of the people who had previously lived there?
Of the 2,100,000 ethnically uniform arabs in gaza before their hamass leadership launched a war, 2,040,000 ethnically uniform arabs remain in gaza, with nary a single non-military Jew spending the night.
So where is this “ethnic cleansing” occurring? Oh yes! When Israel withdrew its Jewish citizens from gaza around the turn of the millennia. So in a way, Israel is responsible for the ethnic cleansing of gaza, removing the Jews and leaving it to the arabs.

The ~60,000 is a hamass statistic I don’t believe, and is composed of about 1/3rd hamass fighters, and 2/3rds civilian casualties used by hamass as human shields. This is about a 2:1 civilian casualty rate, apparently the lowest rate for urban combat in history due to Israel’s exceptional efforts to minimize them.
If you don’t want 60,000 people dying in a war, don’t start it!
