Donald Trump did not rule out expanding US military operations beyond Venezuela to Mexico and Colombia.
The president sat down with Politico in an interview released on Tuesday where he said he would consider using military force on two US allies in Latin America.
Trump cited Mexico and Colombia's drug trade into the US as he continues threatening to overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Mexico is the primary country for drug trafficking into the US for a variety of narcotics, including heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl.
Since early September, the Trump administration has launched 22 strikes on alleged drug-trafficking vessels in both the Caribbean Sea and the Eastern Pacific Ocean, resulting in at least 87 deaths.
'Sure, I would,' Trump said when asked if he would consider using force against targets in other Latin American countries with a highly active drug trade.
A substantial US military force consisting of naval warships and special ground forces has been deployed to the Caribbean to pressure Maduro's regime in Venezuela.
'I don’t want to rule in or out. I don’t talk about it,' Trump said when asked about deploying troops to Venezuela. 'I don’t want to talk to you about military strategy.'
Trump recently pardoned former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández who was convicted on multiple counts involving drug-trafficking.
The former Latin American leader was serving a decades-long sentence in an American before Trump freed him earlier this month.
The president said he knew 'very little' regarding Hernández but that he'd been told by 'very good people' that former Honduran was targeted unfairly.
'They asked me to do it and I said, "I’ll do it,"' Trump said about the pardon.
Trump did not specify who asked him to pardon Hernández - a controversial move as the administration vows to target drug traffickers.

Mexico is a failed narco state with a large porous (but recently less so) border with the U.S.
This is probably more important than our relationship with Russia. China and islamism are important as a threat.
But Mexico might be #3.
Sinking drug boats and scaring some 3rd world countries in SA isn’t going to help much in the 2026 mid-terms. Hope he gets this out of his system early and refocuses on issues here at home. IMHO, more people are concerned about the unchecked spending by DC and the continuing illegal alien problem than they are about losing addicts to overdoses.
If you bothered to pay attention, unlike you, President Trump can do lots of things simultaneously.
The action on the sea against the governmental drug cartels is beneficial even if you (who don’t matter) disapprove
Depends on how much money from narco traffickers was/is aiding and abetting Deep State.
In any case, the fact that ignorant, ill, and impaired is a hat trick also helps Deep State is reason enough to go after the drug manufacturers, transporters, sellers.
Considering how much of the UK’s illegal drug imports, especially coke, are coming from South America, it’s interesting that the UK’s Deep State opposes Trump’s actions as well.

I have a feeling that drugs aren’t the whole issue here. I think, from what I’ve been reading on X, Trump may have proof that Venezuela played a big part in the stolen election. The drug boat bombing is, yes, let’s mess up the supply chain, but also let’s cut off Maduro’s money supply.
All benevolent, intelligent, honest people praise him and will be forever grateful.
If the People of the UK don't care if their country is destroyed, if their children are destroyed, then the American People cannot save them. Only they can save themselves.
