What began as rare encounters off the Iberian coast now shows up in captain’s logs from Galicia to the Strait of Gibraltar, and in wary chatter on VHF. Experts say it looks learned, even coordinated. Insurers are watching. Mariners are changing habits mid-season.
It started like a shiver through the deck plates. A coastal freighter off Cape Finisterre rolled on a glassy swell, the night bridge lit soft blue, an ordinary watch with the engine ticking steady, when the helm shuddered as if from a hidden hand. The bow kept true, but the autopilot clicked off and the rudder felt heavy, like someone leaning against it from below. A deckhand ran aft and froze. Black-and-white shapes ghosted the wake, three, then five, their dorsal fins cutting the oil-slick moonlight. The ship wasn’t alone out there. Then the rudder stopped answering.

I first thought of the windmills messing up the whales’ brain, but it certainly could be a program of OURS.
Orcas gotta orca now.
I get how these creatures can sink a sailboat or even a small yacht. But freighters are massive and built to withstand powerful storms. How can even a school of them be a danger?
This started when we took the title of Killer Whale away from them. They’re gonna show us.
I’m reminded of “The Day of the Dolphin”.
Bales of drugs can travel long distances, and whales/orcas/dolphins probably have fun playing with them. Either that or some other substance that drives them batty.

If Orcas had ever been able to walk on land, the human race would never have existed.
That’s a good point. I wouldn’t doubt that some whales get a snootful just swimming in certain waters.
One of the main reasons this has not happened before is when Orca’s started to mess with a ship, they were shot.
It seems rather like the behavior of bears. When they learn that humans are not dangerous, they start to hold them in contempt, or at least, to not be concerned about messing with them.
It was only a matter of time before this started happening...
The International Union of Orcas probably instituted these attacks...
If Orcas had ever been able to walk on land, the human race would never have existed.
The only difference with Orcas is they are a very large pack predator. Such a large pack predator has not existed on land, because the prey to predator mix on land cannot support one.
Orcas are about as heavy as African elephants. No Mammalian land predators have ever been that large, let alone pack predators.
The left is getting bolder with their attacks .

The Orcas likely have legends that they tell to each other about what they did to the Titanic
Yes, my BS detectors went off on this story.
My thought also. I think these are small vessels, low powered vessels. All the ships I sailed on would have made orca meal.
Still, a very interesting behavior. I understand they have been attacking boats off of S Africa.
Just play some selections from Yoko Ono. That should discourage them from loitering around.
