It was more likely atrial fibrillation. If it was ventricular fibrillation he'd probably have died.
Or else he's the luckiest SOB with V-fib I've ever heard of.

One source (I don’t recall which) said he’s been fitted with an automatic defibrillator.
Dang. I'm not a democrat, and I don't live in PA, but I'd sure hate to lose Fetterman. He's a too-rare voice of sanity on the left.
Perhaps his new visage will strike fear into The Schmuck and AOC.
One can only hope.
V-fib dropped hubby like a rock.
There was nothing I could do and the rescue team worked for 30 minutes with all the cardiac gear they had, including that terrifying chest compression machine.
They told me you have only 1 minute to restore rhythm and even then it’s like 10% chance of living.
It was horrible and something I’ll never get out of my head.
You just stand and watch your former life go away.
Prayers up for Fetterman.

I’m guessing the auto-defib kicks in in seconds, and that’s what saved Fetterman.
I can partially understand your experience. My Mom’s best friend in Mom’s last years was 20 years younger than my Mom. Her friend just toppled over from a V-fib, and that was that... :-(
At least the deceased doesn’t usually consciously feel anything as they pass, evidently. My Dad was taken out by an ulcer and it was rough. I don’t discuss it much, beyond that.

He took meds for it but had dementia and couldn’t remember if he took them that day.
I was trying to look at the dog cam to see if it had recorded him doing so, the whole time telling him he needed an ambulance for the pain he was having.
He refused, saying if an ambulance came they’d make him go to the hospital.
He wasn’t someone you force into anything, despite the irony of “ not wanting to go to the hospital “.
Among all the other sorrows he left me was an unfinished trike he’d been building for a guy.
The guy came and picked up what work had been done, eventually, and he told me that he had a pacemaker for v fib.
This was 5 months after the house fire and it created so much chaos and difficulties for us both that I still believe he’d have lived longer if we’d been able to keep up with his routine checkups.
But we couldn’t as we were being shuffled around from motel to motel back then.
I’m terribly sorry about your dad your mom’s friend.
I hope you have people there who support you emotionally.

Indeed, yes.
It’s been two years and seven months.
I did have my mom to talk to but I lost her •and• a long time old friend on August 30.
I’ve never felt so alone in my life.
I keep going just for the dogs.
I am very grateful for prayers as I need them desperately.
So sorry about your hubby. Fetterman is over-weight which is not good prevention against heart attacks. I try very hard to keep my weight below optimum number. And 30 minutes brisk walk every day. Still alive at 85.5 age without heart issues. Just had an EKG couple of weeks ago.
Will be sorry if he croaks as PA is very much a purple state and he could potentially be replaced by a radical leftist. Esp. as Governor is a Dem and will certainly try to shore up his left flank.

Don’t know why they called it a “flare-up”....A v-fib “flareup” doesn’t usually come and go....it can easily come and then you can go. If he has an auto implant defibrillator which sends an electrical shock to his heart when v fib shows up he is lucky ..but he is much more ill than we know.
I think the left is trying to harass him so he is more prone to dysrhythmia.
He should make his peace with God, and join the Republican party....or become an independent and groom a moderate successor. Otherwise the radical dems will self immolate if they get his seat.
