A disastrous shutdown for Democrats got worse Sunday when Senate Democrats folded on government funding while receiving nothing of substance in return.
Eight Senate Democrats voted with 42 Republicans Sunday night on a procedural vote to allow a continuing resolution (CR) funding the government to advance.
The motion passed 60 to 40, without a single vote to spare, and will enable a future vote on a clean continuing resolution through January 30, 2026, packaged with three relatively non-controversial appropriations bills extending through the fiscal year: agriculture, military construction-Veterans Affairs, and legislative branch.
The agreement includes back pay for federal employees and guarantees that the 4,000-plus federal employees laid off during the shutdown will be rehired, as well as a blanket prohibition on future reductions in force through January 30. Those jobs are a drop in the bucket compared to the 250,000 or so the Trump administration eliminated before the shutdown.
Most significantly, the agreement does not guarantee an extension of Covid-era enhanced Obamacare premium subsidies, with Democrats only receiving assurances of a vote on a bill of their choice.
“As I have said for weeks to my Democrat friends, I will schedule a vote on their proposal, and I have committed to having that vote no later than the second week in December,” Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said on the Senate floor before the vote.
Even if such a bill were to pass the Senate, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has not committed to bringing it to the floor of the House.
The result is that Democrats once again overpromised results to their base but came up empty-handed, inflicting forty days of pain for nothing of substance

Forty days of pain for nothing of substance. What do the care? They have their insider trading, bribes, and big pharma money.

It sure didn’t hurt them. All of their paychecks were on time.
All that ‘harrumphing’ over the need to end the filibuster is muted in one blow.
Schumer had a hissy fit on the floor of the Senate last night, which may or may not have been kabuki theater for the sake of the Dem communists.
Hillary’s VP, Sen. Kane, said in a presser that the tactic wasn’t working and it was time to give it up. I was amazed at the candor, though he’s bound to get blowback for it.
Only Trump.
Nope.
The filibuster has to go.
The Democrat activists here are also going to be sad.
End the philibuster.
No question Free Republic has become a dark anti Trump place with too many with mild to severe TDS posters.
That ‘harrumphing’ may be what got the Democrats to move. They expect to need the filibuster again, at least until the next election.
Absolutely need the filibuster, but make them actually stand and talk. None of this just saying I filibuster.

VA was a wipe out thanks to Huge Gov employees and contractors plus the
Rhino VA Gov forced that Awful Rather Dumb Sears on the ticket which drove the Gop voters to stay home .
That and the Dims had some victories in the recent local elections. It’s amazing how the shutdown ends after that.
To hear the Unions speak against the Shutdown and the Airline people themselves was satisfying. Hope they remember what the Dems put them through when they vote in 2006.
And padded victory from voter fraud.
Likewise, Unions for Government workers is B.S.

So true. The threat to their ability to obstruct was effective. I’m sorry the filibuster wasn’t nuked. The RINO will continue to hide between it. The obstruction will continue.
