The BBC is preparing to launch an investigation to assess bias in its climate change coverage, amid a growing crisis at the corporation.
The broadcaster has decided to review its climate and energy policy reporting after a string of controversies. It has been forced to make a series of corrections, with some programmes being removed altogether.
It comes with the BBC at the centre of a bias row after The Telegraph published a leaked letter, which had been sent to members of the BBC board by Michael Prescott, a former standards adviser.
He wrote of his “despair at inaction” by executives over widespread evidence of skewed reporting.
His letter highlighted a Panorama documentary that spliced together different parts of a speech by Donald Trump and made it seem as though he had told supporters to go to the Capitol and “fight like hell” on the day of the 2021 riot.
The revelations led to the White House accusing the BBC of “purposeful dishonesty” on Friday night, saying it was a “Leftist propaganda machine”.
The president’s press secretary said the way the corporation selectively edited the speech was “100 per cent fake news”.
Mr Prescott also expressed concerns that BBC Arabic was downplaying the suffering of Israelis in the war with Hamas to paint their country as the aggressor.
Now the broadcaster will face fresh scrutiny on its climate coverage, with its Editorial Guidelines and Standards Committee deciding to carry out a “thematic review” of its coverage of “energy policy in the UK and climate change”.
This would make it the latest in a series of reviews on impartiality carried out by the BBC in recent years.

Headline made me laugh. BBC investigating bias? You can’t say that with a straight face.
So... is MI5 or MI6 going to determine the right/wrong bias to be found/not found?
Will they admit Global Warming is Fake and just a Scam to take peoples money and control every second of their lives ?
Even if you firmly believe that human combustion of fossil fuels creates catastrophic global warming, if you are a well-educated scientist, you will still have to admit that there is some contrary evidence to that belief. Use of the word “catastrophic” implies that immediate action is not just justified, it is required.
Real scientists must not only produce the evidence for catastrophe, they must also produce the evidence against it. The evidence for it is regularly produced all across the media. Major evidence against it includes the following:
1. Ice core data show that global periods of higher global temperatures than now naturally happened without the CO2 levels we currently experience.
2. The ice core data also show that CO2 levels have been much higher than now in the past without higher global temperatures than we have now.
3. Combined CO2 and water vapor are now ‘trapping’ nearly ALL the “greenhouse gas” radiation from the sun. Further increases in CO2 will have a negligible effect on global temperatures.
4. Any increase in global temperatures will have a positive effect on the human condition. There will be fewer cold weather deaths, much more arable land will be available for agriculture.
5. Increased CO2 will result in higher efficiency plant after being suppressed to nearly catastrophic low levels during the “Little Ice Age” of the past.

Putin is doing something similar at home, and has created a committee to investigate why so many of his enemies are jumping out of windows or getting their cars blown up with them inside and why so many die of food poisoning or have their planes/helicopters suddenly blow up with them inside.
It’s beyond his understanding why such horrors occur so often while he has been president.
