How should we respond to the unpleasant but expected Blue Wave that washed over the country on Election Day, 2025?
The first issue is clearly that the Republican Party has a turnout problem in off-year elections.
A lot of the new MAGA Trump voters are centrist or liberal-leaning independents who have joined the GOP. These voters don’t get engaged beyond the presidential elections. Republican activists must concentrate their efforts on getting them to vote more.
Better campaign strategies have to invest in more than liking President Trump and wanting to reverse the damage done by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Those two are out of the picture now, and there are still serious social, cultural, and political problems that voters want resolved.
Now, let's take a closer look at the specific elections that pundits had placed in the spotlight as bellwethers for the GOP.
Virginia
After the June primary, the polling was always trending badly for the statewide Republican candidates. I spoke with a vocal parental rights activist in Loudoun County, and she was convinced that Winsome Sears was going to go down in flames.
She had alienated the MAGA base by turning on Donald Trump and endorsing Ron DeSantis for president in 2023. She had bluntly, with little foresight, declared that Donald Trump had turned into a liability for the Republican Party, and it was time for him to step aside.
To the best of my knowledge, Sears made no overt efforts to amend or apologize for her remarks, and she didn't take any steps to repair the damage done between her and many of the Republicans in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or with Trump, for that matter. To no one's surprise, she didn't get an endorsement by President Trump, who reportedly did not think she would win.

Trump's not on the ballot. So we stayed at home playing video games instead.
My apologies to female Freepers as I know you all know how to vote with integrity.
Deep blue places voted deep blue...
This isn’t exactly surprising, or shocking.
Not sure why everyone is wringing their hands, yes it would have been nice if this isn’t how it went down, but reality is, this wasn’t surprising in any way.
Thanks for sharing. I’m certain that female voters, who outvote men, will get right on fixing this.
Except even red places voted blue last night.
That’s more troubling.
Eventually, our government will collapse and we'll stop voting.
Only if Kamala Harris had won the election in 2024....
“It’s very simple why the libs gained, the conservatives let them. Trump set up the path, and they didn’t follow it. Conservative politicians are stupid and cowardly.”
Amen. Also, while Trump means well to seek peace abroad, today was the first time I heard a member of the administration put an America First message to it.
Peace abroad means more resources at home.
“concentrate their efforts on getting them to vote more”
In Sep-Oct I saw numerous “human interest” articles on the ground game of the left? I didn’t see a single article on a Republican ground game. Was there one...anywhere?
In the past a ground game was always important...but more so in off year elections than the big year elections. Is a ground game now thought obsolete? Is it thought that we deserve to win without working for it? Is that not welfare the same as expecting food or housing withouth working for it?

4 races and prop 50 is not a wave
I think they get their azzez handed to them next year...
Everyone’s mileage varies
I think that your analysis is interesting...I got the impression that the GOP candidate could win in New Jersey...Wrong...
Liberals won in liberal states. These weren’t Trump strongholds that fell to the rats. But the media is spinning it that way.
limiting voting rights to property owners might be a more feasible solution
Nothing new there. They've been doing it for decades.
I think your point about "true believer" is a good one...I agree...Many 2024 voters were so unhappy with Biden that they turned to Trump...That does not mean that those people became MAGA Republicans...
The best way to salvage the midterms is turn away from this government-run economy. SCOTUS looks likely to present the GOP a gift. EMBRACE it. Carve out specific tariff targets against China? I’m good with that. But - drop the global sledgehammer nonsense. Prices will come down. People will be happy. And they’ll be less likely to do what voters do: “I’m not happy so I’ll vote for the other guy.”
OK...If the SCOTUS strikes down tariffs...Like you, I think that might help GOP in 2026...
what happened? still using week or more long voting. Still using machines that may or may not be accurate and have glitches or malfunctions day of inconveniencing voters at the least. Still have people voting for the momentary pocket book instead of long term solutions. Still have voters ignorant to the Constitution or State and Fed responsibilities and just vote for whomever says things they want to hear, even if it’s unconstitutional or not in line with State rights or Fed limitations.
Democrat states voted Democrat. 🙄
Meanwhile, last night in states that Trump won...
Democrats flipped two seats on Georgia's statewide Public Service Commission.
Pennsylvania retains three far-left State Supreme Court judges as well as the first ever Democrat Attorney General in Bucks County.
Mississippi Democrats broke a GOP supermajority in the state Senate after flipping two seats in that chamber plus another pickup in the state House.
Democrats flipped of all three city council seats in Georgetown, S.C.
Democrats saw a city council seat in Charlotte, N.C., switch parties for the first time since 1999.
Democrats unseated the last remaining Republican city council member in Orlando.
That is were the majority of the population lives.
