A majority of Supreme Court justices on Wednesday asked skeptical questions about President Trump’s use of emergency powers to impose tariffs on imports from nearly every U.S. trading partner, casting doubt on a centerpiece of the administration’s second-term agenda.
The outcome of the case, which could be decided within weeks or months, has immense economic and political implications for U.S. businesses, consumers and the president’s trade policy.

The stench from the bench is making me clench. - Michael Savage
If he has lost Gorsuch.....
LOL!!
“Is it your contention that every country needed to be tariffed because of threats to the defense and industrial base?” she asked. “I mean, Spain? France? I mean, I could see it with some countries but explain to me why, as many countries needed to be subject to the reciprocal tariff policy, as are.”
. Oof
I am certain other countries allow their leader to manage tariffs so if we can’t it puts us at a disadvantage. Congress takes forever to get anything done and it takes forever.
Not how I read it.
And when is the last time that Congress had a bill regulating a tariff.
I have said many times that a 9-0 ruling against the Trump administration would not surprise me.
How else would the nyt report it?
With all due respect I’ll wait for a more neutral source.
I'm pretty shocked, actually. I expected some hard questions, but not this. If I had to guess now, I would say ACB and Gorsuch are going to find for the plaintiffs here
It appears that the leaders of these countries invoke tariffs in the same way as Trump. I don’t see Congress at the table.
They are actually citing the statements made by the justices during live arguments
When it rains, it pours.
I agree. They’re illegal. Best we can hope for is a June order and only prospective effect
Trump better have a plan B. I listened to the oral arguments and him using Tarrifs is done.
What I want to know is who advised him that the legality of this was on solid ground? His lawyers were not convincing here, like they knew they had a weak argument and were backfilling.
“NYT....buyers beware”
Exactly!
You have to ask skeptical questions if you’re going to learn the countervailing argument.
So what happens if he loses, he has to give all the money back? ANY President hast he right to impose tariffs, he imposed tariffs on China his ENTIRE first term, no one complained
FlipWilson - Please come back if you are wrong.
Congress can fix it.
