In recent weeks, automakers and other companies in the vehicle space are pulling back their investments in electric vehicles (EVs), including laying off workers in multiple states.
The moves come in the wake of Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which repealed incentives for consumers to buy electric cars.
GM in particular is set to lay off 1,200 workers from its Detroit plant and another 550 from its Ultium Cells plant in Ohio.
Meanwhile, another 850 are being temporarily laid off from the Ohio Ultium Cells plant and another 710 being temporarily let go from an Ultium factory in Tennessee.
While those layoffs were the largest that were recently announced, they’re not the only ones.
Last month, EV-maker Rivian told staff it would let go of about 4.5 percent of its workforce. Reuters reported that this represents more than 600 jobs.
“With the changing operating backdrop, we had to rethink how we are scaling our go-to-market functions,” Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said in a note to staff seen by The Hill.
Meanwhile, Freudenberg e-Power Systems said this week it would close two EV battery facilities in Michigan, laying off 324 workers.
“We have reached this difficult decision due to the decrease in demand for heavy-duty electric and hybrid electric vehicles in North America,” the company said in a statement.
The moves come after this year’s tax and spending bill eliminated a tax credit for consumers that brought down EV prices by up to $7,500.
The credit expired at the end of September.
GM, whose spokespeople did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment, cited in a recent note to investors government policies and specifically the end of incentives as part of a need to reassess its electric vehicle strategy.
“With the evolving regulatory framework and the...

Instead of listening to leftist whacko politicians, perhaps they should have been listening to their actual customer base.....
Nooooo! EVs were aspiring rappers who were just about to turn their lives around.
Obama made it clear opponents would be seized. So automakers were under the gun. We know he was a totalitarian.
Oversized electric golf cart fanbois hardest hit.
Ha!! Good one
To be fair, it looked like the Democrats were not going to give up power in 2024.
So that giant sucking sound at tax time is going to have to be something else now. It’s nice to have organically occurring supply and demand of goods and services once in a rare while, without meddling from self served parties.

Shocking ⚡⚡⚡
Hopefully those affected can plug 🔌🔌🔌 into an outlet to deal with their frustrations.
They could purchase a gas-powered ⛽ Honda A Cord.
Now they know how the Keystone Pipeline workers felt.
Golf Carts with their Pb-Acid batteries have long been a quiet boost to Golfing.
My Turbo-gas, m/t, AWD Golfs provide love to me....
YEP.
And probably the Leftist Democrats STILL
can’t figure out WHY higher fuel costs
made food more expensive. DUH! 🙄🙄🙄
It had zero to do with actual business terms and conditions.
He survived it, but the three other Chrysler dealerships within a 20 mile radius that were very conservative leaning were informed they were to be de-listed as dealerships for Chrysler. I'm assuming Ford and GM went thru that as well.
And his dealership sold the fewest cars out of those in the area. So go figger?
Stelantis cancelled the EV battery factory they’d promised Prickster to build and instead are re-opening the Belvidere assembly plant to build Jeeps with gas engines. A slap right in his fat face.
More winning.

…exactly! And best come back!
Now the true EV “market” will be revealed.
Driving around town with family and friends, I used to point out the Tesla and other EVs, each time commenting that each of us helped that person purchase the car (subsidies, taxpayer $$$). It reached the point where they were so P’od they asked me to stop.
After Sept 30, I now point out that we are no longer funding every purchase. Family and friends enjoy that much more.
I don’t hate EV’s. In fact, in some situations they make sense in an odd sort of way. I would think about owning one.
I just don’t want them subsidized.
Meanwhile, my ‘57 BelAir 327 Hardtop, 2013 F-150, and BMW motorcycle K1300S will serve my needs.
A new EV factory is being built in the northern part of Kokomo, IN. Everyone hailed it as the next great automotive plant. Lately, however, many folks have been laid off from the construction crews, and now I fear it will not even open as scheduled. Pity. Millions of dollars potentially wasted.

I don’t think they will feel the same way.
Workers who worked on something concrete and having to qualify for it...that would be the Pipeline workers....
Entitled EV workers participating in the attempted Federal takeover of entire industries are more like babies when they cannot get their favorite foods.
I accord the Pipeline workers much more respect.
It may sound a bit harsh...just my (formerly worth more) 2 cents....
