It shouldn’t be possible for any immigrant to collect welfare , legal or not.

I sponsored immigrants before and if they go on welfare then you have to pay the government back.

This is made quite clear.

That is what Federal law says. But Federal judges try to make enforcement of that law illegal.

Sorry, "Packaging Guy." You are mistaken.

The "Pay Back" obligation has not been enforced for decades.

Even if you signed "Support Form I-864" - which is optional in many states - individual states have a legal option to NOT enforce it.

Most of them - perhaps all of them - do NOT enforce it.

Regardless - most USA immigrants are now supported by organizations like Lutheran Services and Catholic Charity, which literally receive billions of dollars from federal and state government.

I worked for the county welfare department in the 80’s. It wasn’t enforced then. That’s how long it has been going on.

Exactly.

Illegals can never get welfare. That they do is illegal.

Illegals don't seemed bothered that they are doing illegal things.

Re: "So you do admit it is Law."

No - I admit it is an OPTION - rarely enforced - in most states.

We should fully expect illegals not to be bothered, they are Dem stooges finding loose cash.

We, however, have every right to expect our political leaders in opposition to be bothered on our behalf by this abuse of laws and theft of taxpayer monies.

It is helpful that DeSantis recognizes this abuse of law, now just WTH does he intend to do about it...beyond simply promoting his name????

Re: "Illegals can never get welfare. That they do is illegal."

The entire concept of "Illegal" aliens has been under relentless Judicial assault since George W. Bush tried to legalize every foreign born immigrant in the USA in 2005.

I've noticed that good politicians "notice" and enunciate the problem, very very few actually do anything about it. This is where Trump excels.

For the longest time, you couldn’t immigrate to this country unless you had a job already lined up and people here who could vouch for you.

The Democrats changed that, and now we have millions of immigrants (many illegal) on public assistance.

That situation is intolerable.

This law is not enforced today. It stopped being enforced 20 or more years ago.

First, family-sponsored LEGAL immigrants are SUPPOSED to not become dependent on the government, and this is the purpose of form I-864, an “Affidavit of Support.” As some have pointed out, NO ONE enforces the law on which the affidavit is based.

Regarding benefits to ILLEGAL residents, it depends on the state; as an example, in NYC, I hear radio ads for heath care coverage where they proudly proclaim that it’s offered, “regardless of immigration status.”

How many people crossed the border during the Biden Administration after signing a dishonest paper saying that they were seeking asylum? Shouldn’t there be some record about this even if Biden processed them through as fast as he could?

I do not believe that asylum seekers are considered “illegal immigrants” until after they do not show up for a hearing which often takes many years.
The Biden administration was truly evil.
