Trump cannot be president again. But he and his loyal followers have every reason for wanting to make people think he can.
Can Donald Trump legally run for a third term as president of the United States? No. Can Trump serve as president for a third term? No. Is there some untried or untested constitutional theory that could potentially allow Trump to serve again? No. Can he run for vice president? No. Can he run for Congress, get elected as speaker of the House, and serve as president after the president and vice president resign? Well, he can run for speaker but he’d be ineligible to assume the presidency through succession. Can Trump delay or cancel the 2028 federal elections and serve indefinitely? No. Is there any legal way Trump can be president again in 2029? No.
Will Trump still be the president in 2029? I don’t know. Because laws do not matter to dictators.
Convicted criminal Steve Bannon touched off the latest round of discussion regarding a potential third term for Trump when he told The Economist: “Well he’s going to get a third term. So, Trump ’28, Trump is going to be president in ’28 and people ought to just get accommodated with that.” When informed that the 22nd Amendment explicitly prevents Trump from running again, Bannon said: “There’s many different alternatives.… At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is.”
Again, there are no alternatives, much less “many,” to get around the 22nd Amendment. The language is clear. It reads, in pertinent part: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of...

He would take on an advisory role is what he would do to get around the Amendment that prevents a third term. Probably a position in the cabinet.
The author is a nutjob.
Steve has done it again. Dropped a triggering ‘What If?”
word-bomb, and gotten the Libs all lit up like Christmas Trees! I’m sure both he and The Donald have a big belly laugh over how gullible and brittle the Libs can be, even with all those oppositional facts staring them right in the face!
And what is the commie media msn trying to prove.
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
--Relevant part of 22nd Amendment.
So it says he can not be elected a third time.
Not sure how he would be technically prevented from running as Vice President like the article asserts.
However its moot anyway, he is not going to seek another term, he is just trolling them.
“Well, he can run for speaker but he’d be ineligible to assume the presidency through succession.”
That is just the author’s opinion, but never has the question been tested. Nothing in the amendment says a two term president cannot hold the office through succession.
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. “
Is Mystal that mushroom head on PMSNBC?
Spare me.
There is nothing preventing him from running for vice president. George Bush Sr. served two terms as vice president and then one term as president.
Isn’t that how it works nowadays?
The Constitution also says that no one may run for vice-president if they are ineligible to run as president.
I have never completely understood this as FDR managed more than 2 terms. Right? Yeah, I know it was a special occasion. Right now, there’s no Democrat fit to run against Trump. I can’t really say as I admit not understanding this altogether.
Perhaps you could elaborate as to where this is written?
FDR served before the two term limit was added in the 22nd Amendment.
The plain text says “cannot be elected” but nothing about succession. Ergo, he could become President again if two others were elected and resigned.
Of course Trump (by then age 82) will happily depart the stage but he has built up quite the farm team that will keep MAGA going for decades to come.
He did get elected three times when you eliminate the fraud, so he does deserve three terms.
