President Trump on Thursday called on Senate Republicans to initiate the “nuclear option” and get rid of the filibuster, which would allow them to end the government shutdown and pass legislation with a simple majority.
“It is now time for the Republicans to play their ‘TRUMP CARD,’ and go for what is called the Nuclear Option — Get rid of the Filibuster, and get rid of it, NOW!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump’s post came on the heels of a trip to Asia, where he said he faced questions about how Democrats shut down the government, “and why did the powerful Republicans allow them to do it?”
The president noted that some Democratic senators during the Biden administration had called for an end to the filibuster. Then-President Biden and some senators called for altering the filibuster to protect voting rights and abortion access, though it did not garner unanimous support within the party.
Trump went on to argue that Democrats would eliminate the filibuster if given the opportunity to enact policies like statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.
“Well, now WE are in power, and if we did what we should be doing, it would IMMEDIATELY end this ridiculous, Country destroying ‘SHUT DOWN,’” Trump posted. “If the Democrats ever came back into power, which would be made easier for them if the Republicans are not using the Great Strength and Policies made available to us by ending the Filibuster, the Democrats will exercise their rights, and it will be done in the first day they take office, regardless of whether or not we do it.”

The only filibuster that should be allowed is someone actually speaking non-stop, without respite.
John Podesta planned civil war if Biden lost in 2020.
Top Democrats contemplate civil war if Biden loses
The plan was postponed for four years when they managed to steal the 2020 election.
In the meantime, they made a predictive-programming movie about a civil war to prepare their minions for what to do when the time came.
In Podesta's plan and in the movie, Left-coast states form a "Western Alliance," secede from the Union and eventually assassinate the President.
Lo-and-behold, California, Oregon and Washington have formed an alliance to "cow" the President.
The Western States Can COW the President
And when Gavin Newsom bragged about forming the alliance on Steven Colbert's show, the minions cheered because they were in on the plan.
Gavin Newsom gets the full Colbert treatment
He highlighted California’s partnership with nearby states to counter what he’s called the politicization of the CDC and vaccine guidelines under HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
I don’t know... The Dems nuked the filibuster for judicial nominees and then that came back to haunt them when the GOP regained power and was able to confirm all of Trump’s nominees. I certainly wish that the Dem party never takes back the Senate, but history suggests that such a possibility is unlikely. Does the GOP want to give up this tool?
good. get her done, GOP.
Trump is 100% incorrect on this one.
The Democrats never compromise with Republicans. But the republicans always compromise with democrats and Trump only has 3 years left.
We are going to have to live with this for the rest of our lives. No way, no way, absolutely no way.
Whatever future Establishment republican some Bush type or Romney type is going to give the democrats everything the democrats want and there won’t be a filibuster to stop them.
Trump is gone in 3, keep the filibuster.
Continuing resolutions are terrible and are the root of this wasteful crap. Start passing a defense bill, a farm bill, and energy bill etc...
CRs only encourage idiots to hold airline travel, the military, and other critical things hostage for nutty causes medical spending on illegal aliens.
During an earlier frustrating and tense time in Congress Trump was in the news for considering the “nuclear option” about the filibuster.
On TV news a young college girl said: “We have to get Trump out. I heard he is going to get us into a nuclear world war as a way to get his way in Congress.”
Bad move, IMHO...
Just resurrect the original “filibuster” rules of action...
The Civil War 2 can’t happen because the lines of battle cannot be defined. The Leftists have every large city and state capitol because they represent large government versus self-rule and their trough-addicted vote slaves congregate near them so as to not be far from the money spigot.
The Conservatives/patriots populate everywhere else, surrounding the Dem islands in every case. They control all access to the materials and resources every population requires to survive. They would merely rename one of their own strongholds a new capitol and retake the old ground once the vermin are starved to death or submit to the republic form of government once again.
But this is about the filibuster. It used to be worse, requiring two thirds of the Senate to beat (66 members plus the tie-breaker) but was reduced to 60 in 1975. Since then the Democrat party has solidified into one monolithic entity that doesn’t tolerate dissension from it’s leader’s goals, so more often than not they vote nearly unanimously in lockstep against opposing agendas (the Republicans when they can find their gonads).
President Trump is asking that the minority party-of-the-moment’s leverage be nullified for the sake of one issue at this one point in history when both parties have benefitted from the filibuster when the shoe was on the other foot.
Eliminating it would simplify the law-making process but the advantage will remain with whichever party enjoys the slightest majority of the moment. Incentive for negotiation, compromise and finer consideration is practically eliminated, guaranteeing great “collateral damage” from laws where the concerns of each side are disregarded for the sake of Winner Take All.
I propose shaving that 60 majority vote down to 55 for an agreed-on trial basis to see if that speeds government along without leaving massive interests in the dust.
I agree. The Dems are losing this battle. This is not the time to relax the pressure. If Thune does nuke the filibuster then that will be used against him: “Why didn’t he do this sooner and avoid all the suffering blahblahblah.” Keep the pressure on. Put yenta Schumuh on his knees.
WE’LL CRUSH THEM!
BRING IT!
This is what I called for from the very beginning.
Since Democrats REFUSE to fund the government, Senate Republicans need to use the nuclear option and override the filibuster!!
Enough of the drama.
Stop forcing people to suffer and LEAD the country!!

“If Thune does nuke the filibuster then that will be used against him”
So what?
It would work only if Republicans found the spine to implement real changes in the year. First thing to be done is election reform.
 You serious?
Schumer tried to end the filibuster a few years back. Only Sinema and Manchin stopped him
Schumer will inevitably do that again if he ever becomes Majority Leader
It's stupid for Republicans not to end filibuster NOW.
The filibuster is an excellent thing. It puts an obstacle in front of government activity in our lives and that is a profoundly conservative perspective. Taking action to undo conservative perspectives is not what we’re about.
And of course with no filibuster in place then the next time the Democrats have full power, that would be the day that they passed the law that will not allow gun manufacturers to manufacture a gun that actually functional. There would be no way to stop that. It’s not a violation of the Constitution to impact gun manufacturers. The second amendment protects the rights of citizens to own guns. It provides no protection to manufacturers. And a majority could put that in place.
A majority could certainly require Sharia law in the US. They’re all sorts of things that you could only obstruct if you had filibuster power when in a minority.
“The filibuster is an excellent thing. It puts an obstacle in front of government activity in our lives and that is a profoundly conservative perspective”
Nope!
Its a terrible thing.
Voters and fair elections put a check on governments.
Democrats want to rule without winning elections.
Not gonna happen.
Might not be able to get even 50 votes if they do.
Murkowski, Thuthan Collinth, The Turtle, and now Randpaul might throw a kink into it
