The real reason why Democrats are so unpopular
MSN.com ^ | 10/29/2025 | ric Levitz

The Democratic Party has spent most of the past decade deciding to lose.

Or so argues a new report from Welcome PAC, an organization that backs center-left candidates, so as to build “a big-tent Democratic Party.”

It is no secret that the Democrats are in a sorry state. They’ve lost to an exceptionally unpopular Republican presidential nominee twice in the last nine years. They have long odds of regaining control of the Senate next year and aren’t even certain to retake the House of Representatives. They’re historically unpopular, having lost ground with much of the party’s traditional base — including voters who are working class, people of color, young, or all of the above.

To determine how this happened, Welcome’s Simon Bazelon conducted six months of polling with nearly half a million voters, examined the results of hundreds of recent elections, analyzed shifts in the Democratic Party’s legislative priorities, and crunched various other data points. In so doing, Bazelon produced a rigorous and thorough accounting of what the centrist organization already knew: The Democratic Party has veered too far left, effectively choosing to prioritize progressive orthodoxy over electoral success.

Welcome’s report has already resonated with many of the Democratic Party’s leadership. And if Bazelon’s analysis proves persuasive to Democratic insiders, it could shape the trajectory of the party’s 2028 presidential primary — and thus, the future of American democracy.

To see how well that analysis stands up to scrutiny, I spoke with Bazelon about various progressive objections to his arguments. Our conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

Interesting but no surprises here.

The problem for the rats is that this is what their base wants. The base strongly supports all these policies, even though they are out of touch with mainstream america.

Thankfully they have been transparent about their objectives, which is why Trump and the GOP keep winning. But I expect they will now just hide these parts of their agenda and pretend they have changed in order to get elected. Then they will ram everything through Congress as they do in California.

GOP needs to hold on to at least one branch of government besides the judiciary, or we are all toast.

They thought by now the "Great Replacement" would be in full swing.

They never thought there would be any push back against their importing peasants as well as some foreign born elites to rule with them.

When the storm scattered the Spanish Armada, and saved Protestant England from invasion, the Catholic Spanish court determined that God had deemed that the English were unworthy of receiving the benefit of the one, true, holy Church. I suspect that God has deemed the American people unworthy of Kamala Harris, and the benefits of the one, true, and holy Democratic Party.

There can be no other explanation.

I read the whole thing, and I think the democrats are at a loss. Suggests they need to try to have it both ways, keep their extreme left positions while appealing to popular issues. That won’t work because they already have little credibility.

Disagree, if by "base" you mean "voters." It's what their globalist handlers and cash-for-favors donors want.

“Do these people even hear themselves?!“
The satan party has blocked their ears.
They can’t hear anymore, nor can they think for themselves anymore.
It makes no difference what you say to them.
All they hear is the satan’s voice.
Unlike others, who DO hear:
Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”

“They’ve lost to an exceptionally unpopular Republican presidential nominee twice in the last nine years.”

If he’s so “exceptionally unpopular”, how come he won?

The problem is still that a large group of people, primarily in the northeast, will vote rat no matter what, because that’s how their daddy voted. I work with a guy from NY that is in 98% agreement with President Trump’s policies, but will vote rat every time. Makes no sense to me.

Welcome PAC polled the wrong group of voters.

They should have simply gone to the closest CEMETERY, the dead vote DEMOCRAT 100% of the time EVERY TIME.
