Largest Federal Workers Union Urges Dems to Cave on Government Shutdown, Revealing Cracks in Coalition

The nation’s largest federal workers’ union, the American Federation of Government Employees, is urging Democrats to concede the government shutdown fight and vote to reopen the government, revealing a significant fracture in the Democratic coalition as the shutdown nears the one-month mark.

The shutdown began 27 days ago after Democrats refused to back a clean government funding bill, demanding instead that Republicans extend temporary Obamacare subsidies that are set to expire at the end of the year. But AFGE, a major ally to the Democratic party which represents 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers, now says it’s time for the party to give up on its demands.

“It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship,” AFGE President Everett Kelley said in a Monday statement provided to NBC News.

COALITION CRACKS AHOY!!!

It's going to be tough for the Democrats to remain in Shutdown mode when the head of the federal worker's union wants them to pass the clean CR.

The question is whether or not Deep State gives a crap, not its poltical minions.

If Deep State is getting freaked, then that is indeed good news.

It’s not Obamacare. It’s all the USAID grant money that funds the network of lefty NGOs, which provide high paying jobs for the children of the Washington Elites, that they want to preserve.

Interesting wording... they want the democrats to “cave”, not “do the right thing” or “stop being idiots”.

I think the CR runs through mid-November. I expect the democrats to delay until it expires, then when the House crafts the new CR they’ll insist on a bunch of crap being added to it so here we go again.

I thought the AFGE was basically a wing of the Democrat Party. This is a pretty big crack in the coalition.

It is, however, no pay for govt workers also means no union dues coming in. Not to mention that they're getting a ton of pressure from their own members who are not getting paid during the shutdown, and even more from those who are still working despite not being paid. At some point it becomes a 14th amendment issue.

Once the DNC surrenders, it is pretty much over forever. The money stolen to run the show is all gone and there will be no chance to recover.

Then, the indictments will start

This is the beginning of the end. The Dems are beholden to the unions and can’t continue without their support.

And unions don’t give a rats *** about the healthcare subsidies as they all have great fed health plans

It will just shut down again since the budget bills still have not passed. They will hold those hostage as well.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out the crisis point for the dims would be the first missed payday for govt employees.

The only thing holding them back is chuckie trying to make it look like a win.
