As Maricopa County voters begin casting ballots in the off-year election, Supervisor Debbie Lesko is raising concerns about Proposition 409 — a $898 million bond proposal to fund major upgrades for Valleywise Health, the county’s public hospital system.
“I’m not a fan of Prop. 409, the Valleywise Health ballot measure,” Lesko wrote on X. “This is a new tax in addition to their existing tax. If this passes, we’ll be paying for two Valleywise bonds on our property taxes.”

U.S. Senators Ruben Gallego (D), Mark Kelly, U.S. Representatives Yassamin Ansari (D), Greg Stanton (D), Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego (Nonpartisan), and former Gov Jan Brewwer.
This is what Center for Arizona Policy said, "Voters are not just approving a bond for construction. They are giving their financial and moral approval to the entire Valleywise Health operation, including its stated commitment to grow its clinics that offer transgender services. There are no guardrails to prevent this expansion. There are no clauses to protect taxpayers from funding harmful practices they oppose. We can support access to emergency and trauma care to those who can’t afford it while demanding moral accountability. Before you fill out your ballot, look past the glossy mailers and ask what your money will truly be building."
“They are giving their financial and moral approval to the entire Valleywise Health operation, including its stated commitment to grow its clinics that offer transgender services.”
It is not enough for them to push this transgender stuff in our faces. They insist we also pay for it.
I read this, and wondered if it had something to do with facilitating health care for illegals, and saw your comment about the commitment to grow its clinics that offer transgender “services”.
Disgusting.
I am an Arizona State Senator. The whole mental health hospital system is in shambles. Personally, I would rather see Phoenix take care of it then it landing at the State’s door. There are so many problems made worse by politicians. and now we are trying to clean it up. I had a bill last year that will hopefully get the mentally ill off the street and into locked facilities. Guess who the biggest critic was? ACLLU. They are just now progressive advocates, not even lawyers.
The Left were the ones who encouraged states to close mental health facilities because committing people to them against their will was a violation of their rights.
The ACLU was right there with them. For decades, they have abandoned any pretense of doing anything other than supporting Leftism.
No kidding!
Get rid of the illegals and maybe will give more room to citizens. Arizona is glutted with people from other countries who flood the hospitals.
This will give money for services for transgenders. That’s why the dems are all behind this.
Also, they can and will raise this every year because they will say we need more money.
Well thank you for that bill. I guess the ACLU knocked that one off the books. They are just progressives, and have been for many years that I have seen.
I am living it.
It really bothers me to think of Arizona that way, but given what has been going on out there with the Lefties for years now, not surprising in the least.
Fight the good fight, FRiend.
“Well thank you for that bill. I guess the ACLU knocked that one off the books. They are just progressives, and have been for many years that I have seen.”
The ACLU are not progressives. They are evil Marxist who push anarchy to try and bring about their revolution.
After AHCCCS, Valleywise Health was made totally redundant.
There is no need for it anymore.
Yet, instead of declaring victory and disband, they want to expand and charge more money!
It is very unlikely, that any freeper will ever need their services! Most beneficiaries will be illegals.
Yet, we all pay and will pay even more for this boondoggle!
Phoenix is the 2nd fastest growing city in the United States, and has been so since the start of the decade. It’s continuing to grow, even as these arguments break out.
If Maricopa County want healthcare available, one good way to ensure it is to pass this proposition. If not, they shouldn’t whine when they can’t access a doctor for some serious matter because there simply aren’t enough places to treat them.
Turning healthcare into a cultural fight over abortion or transgender treatment is short sighted and extraordinarily foolish.
Republicans were once known as careful and thoughtful conservatives. They’ve squandered that in Arizona.
“I had a bill last year that will hopefully get the mentally ill off the street and into locked facilities. Guess who the biggest critic was? ACLLU. They are just now progressive advocates, not even lawyers.”
In extreme mental cases you would be saving lives of the mentally ill and possibly others by getting them off the street.
The problem is a lack of common sense with ACLU types. There is a difference between temporarily homeless/lost job and addicts/criminals.
We got it past it’s just common sense
Not true. If there was no Valley wise hospital, you have no idea how many of these crazy people would be on the street. They’re on the street now. We can hardly get them off. There’s not enough room. We need locked facilities.
My advice to all people is to stay clear of political factions. Because with their cultist schemes they will rob people of their sensible thought and drag them down into the depths of depravity.
That includes all political factions.
George Mason warned of a over bearing federalist government. He warned that a strong federal government would become uncontrollable run by political factions.
George Mason advocated for strong local governments. Not federal, not so much state. Local.
Pretty extremist isnt it?
And theyll attack George Mason even though without George Mason and a couple others we wouldnt have the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th amendments.
Whats this got to do with this issue? Everything. Political factions.
Learn your history.
We are entering a period of economic disaster caused by retaliatory tarrifs. The last time retaliatory tarrifs were used, prior to the great depression, those tarrifs CAUSED, a depression.
Benjamin Harrison.
Political factions.
