With the federal shutdown entering its fourth week, spurred by a stalemate over the cost of health insurance for 22 million Americans on Affordable Care Act plans, a new report shows that over 154 million people with coverage through an employer also face steep price hikes — and that the situation is likely to get worse.
Premiums for job-based health insurance rose 6% in 2025 to an average of $26,993 a year for family coverage, according to an annual survey of employers released Oct. 22 by KFF, a health information nonprofit that includes KFF Health News.
It’s the first time in two decades that the cost of covering a family of four has risen by 6% or more for three consecutive years, data from KFF shows.

Affordable Healthcare was neither from the start.
It was designed that way, intentionally.
It was done that way so that nobody would eventually have any decent healthcare and would be screaming for SINGLE PAYER GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTHCARE.
If you think healthcare is expensive now, just wait until it’s ‘free’!..................
My son-in-law was a used car dealer at that time and that program nearly collapsed the used car market...It still hasn’t fully recovered...........
I thought Healthcare was going to be free. Isn’t that what Hope and Change sold us?
I KNOW A GUY WHO PAID OVER $55,000 FOR A TOYOTA TRUCK...
OIL CHANGES==$165.
ALL THE VEHICLES & HAVE OWNED SINCE 1957 DO NOT TOTAL OVER $55,000...INCLUDING A CUSTOM 4 HORSE TRAILER
Workers at Reiff pay about half the cost of their health coverage.
In other words, both the employee and the employer pay the premiums. But the article conveniently leaves out the fact that with Obamacare premiums someone else is also helping to pay the premiums: the govt (taxpayers). But we're supposed to believe that Obamacare is cheaper overall. What BS!
I laughed when a rather liberal co-worker touted how cheap his new Obamacare policy was, forgoing the company-offered plan. Later, when he did his tax return, he was billed $5,600 for “unpaid premiums” because of his income level.
I don’t think it slapped the leftist out of him, but it made him think.
Absolutely!
We’re not reminded often enough.
It was very deliberately and callously designed to fail.
The average price of a car used to cost about 10% of the average salary.
And he was glad to get it. he said that every time he drove it, something expensive broke.
Did this happen after Covid began? Congress temporarily changed the rules and subsidies. Before Covid, people that had company healthcare coverage weren’t eligible to sign up for Obamacare from what I remember..
Why does not President Trump put an end to our fleecing?
This was prior to 2020. I know that the scamdemic changed a lot of rules. It even aggravated the scam called Obamacare.
I have found that many drugs and procedures are slightly cheaper as private-pay by the patient as opposed to filing with insurance, or only marginally more expensive. The payouts on policies is pathetic in most cases.
Calling KFF a non-profit is an obscenity. KFF is the propaganda/advertising wing of Kaiser Permanente, the most savagely, fascistic for-profit entity ever created, the healthcare company that bought the Demonrat party, wrote Obamacare, and has profited unholy amounts to the ruin of American society.
“affordable”? well the insurance ceo’s sure thought so.
Thanks. I went on Medicare a couple of years ago, so I haven’t paid as much attention to Obamacare as I use to.
