As Republicans across the country pursue new congressional maps to boost their party ahead of next year's midterm elections, Democrats are ramping up pressure on states where they can respond.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., has held discussions with members of the Maryland delegation and Democratic Gov. Wes Moore in recent weeks about possible mid-decade redistricting efforts, according to a source with knowledge of the conversations. The source also said Jeffries spoke with members of the Illinois delegation about drawing new district lines, as Politico first reported.
Maryland has just one Republican, Rep. Andy Harris, in its eight-member House delegation. And in Illinois, where Democrats control 14 of the state's 17 districts, GOP Rep. Mary Miller's seat is the potential target, the source said.
Democrats have previously floated Illinois and Maryland, where the party has full control of state government, as states where they could counter Republicans' moves in Texas, Missouri and elsewhere.
But Democrats are feeling renewed pressure to act as Republican lawmakers in states like North Carolina, Indiana and Kansas weigh new maps aimed at shoring up the party's narrow U.S. House majority.
"The pressure will become greater with every additional red state that heeds Trump's call," said Maryland state Sen. Clarence Lam, a Democrat who introduced a bill to redraw the state's maps this summer.

Illinois was gerrymandering before there WAS a Texas. Nothing left to gerrymander.
Whatever the Democrats do won’t last, because they lose about 1% of their side each year, because their birth rate is only 1.6/1000. The conservative birth rate is 2.4/1000. This means conservatives grow at around 0.5% each year, for a net difference between the two sides, is 1.5%
By 2026, they will be 1.5% difference between what it was in 2024. By 2028, it could be 4.5%. By 2036, the difference could be as much 20% advantage to conservatives.
Yeah but what if the DemocRATS register aborted fetuses to vote and cast votes for them via imposter voting. /sarcasm but you never know with the ‘RATS.
15 GOP house members won their seat in 2024 by less than 5% margin.
Worse for the Democrats.
Grok:
In the 2024 U.S. House elections, 19 Democratic candidates won their districts by less than 5 percentage points. These narrow victories highlight the competitive nature of many races, with Republicans securing a slim majority (220-215) overall.
I love these stats. When I inform Democrats that between their small families and abortions, democrats are killing their future voters...none believe me. Which is fine with me.
Per national registration stats per the states that register by party, Rs have a net gain of 1.3 million just from the Nov 2024 election.
Possible Federal Law
If the invader resides and is present in the City of Baltimore, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Montgomery County or Prince Georges County, Maryland, the invader shall not be removed by ICE.
If the invader resides and is present in Crook County, Illinois, the invader shall not be removed by ICE.
Ask AOC’s predecessor how Hispanics vote.
NBC Snooze is so blinded by their leftist slant that they cannot see the forest through the trees.
Trump received 44% of the votes in Illinois in 2024 yet only 18% of the districts have a gop rep. Maryland has 12% gop yet Trump won 34% of the votes. The six New England states are even worse.
Just like reciprocal tariffs, this is just the redistributing (gerrymandering) pendulum swinging back toward the center.

Possible Federal Law
The counties of Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Riverside, and Ventura in California shall be returned to Mexico if Mexico agrees to take them back.
Effective January 4th, 2027, each Congressional district in New Mexico not served by a Republican shall be returned to Mexico if Mexico agrees to take the district back.
The counties of King, Kitsap, Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom in Washington State shall be offered up for sale to Canada under terms the President of the United States shall deem suitable. In no case shall he offer or accept a sales price less than $1.
[The Canadian government would then probably give the prime land back to the Indians.]
The President of the United States shall endeavor to sell the California counties adjacent to San Francisco Bay to the Republic of China. In no case shall he offer or accept a sales price of less than $1.
All I know is we’ve lived in same house in far out exurban Chicago for 33 years and I’ve lost track of our congressional district. Changes every couple yewrs. Very conservative area but perpetually democrat because of filthy redistricting.
Secondly, Democrats have already gerrymandered far harder than Republicans so there just isn't as much space for them to push any harder. What do I mean? In Illinois, Trump got 42.5% of the vote. Republicans hold 17.5% of US house seats. In California, Trump got 38% of the vote. Republicans hold 17.5% of US house seats. In Massachusetts, Trump got 36% of the vote. Republicans hold 0% of US house seats. In fact all of New England has 21 US house seats. Republicans hold 0 of them.
If Republicans gerrymander this hard in Red states, Democrats stand to lose 15-20 US house seats. That is to say nothing of the number of seats the Democrats would lose if a fair US Census is done this time since they deliberately undercounted red states and stole several US house seats and tens of billions of dollars from them. Imagine if illegal aliens are not counted. That would be even more US House seats flipping to red states.
The fourth district in Illinois is a most curious thing. A horseshoe shaped district that slices through two hispanic neighborhoods that are nothing alike and are miles from each other. But in order to have one and only one hispanic district so that blacks don’t give up any membership, the fourth district can get as thin as half a block so as to keep it 90% hispanic. What makes the fourth so curious is not that its the most egregious example of gerrymandering in the whole country, but that its 100% democrat as are the surrounding districts. The point of the fourth is to make sure that hispanics only get one seat while blacks get their full number. This is not gerrymandering to get more democrat seats. This is gerrymandering to keep ethnic participation levels constant within the democrat party. Even though hispanic populations are growing within Chicago and blacks are shrinking, Asians are locked out and hispanics are limited to a single majority district.
So far less than 10% of all of the House seats are actually competitive. But yes the Democrats face defending more such than the GOP. And indeed just a few seats gained by redistricting could hold the house for the rest of Trump’s term
Correct.
MD was gerrymandered blue years ago.
You can see 11 districts for Chicago, a Quad Cities district, three representing St. Louis, and Champaign having one to itself with Rockford split.
The entire part is representation by their choice cities. This is what the Supreme Court will likely be attacking. It proves Sen. Dirksen from 1964 correct.
