A pair of Los Angeles television anchors watched in horror as a suspected car thief was killed live on-air during a police chase Monday night.
Helicopter footage of the near-30-minute chase was being broadcast on KCBS-TV when the suspect was shown emerging from a van in the Mount Washington neighborhood in an apparent attempt to flee.
The man is seen hopping over a divider on the 110 Freeway before a car in the opposing lane speeds by, striking him as the camera had zoomed in.

Animal control were also called to the scene to remove a dog from the inside the van, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Consider the absolute selfishness of the thief. The person who killed him will have to deal with that forever. Admittedly, I know a number of people who wouldn’t mind it at all after they found out the truth, but there’s no denying that in the seconds or minutes after the accident the driver is going to be thinking that they’ve both killed another human being by accident and that there were a lot of cops that witnessed the event.

This happened years ago when John Gibson was doing his afternoon show on MSNBC. They went live to an LA car chase and the dude stopped on an overpass, got out of his truck and pulled out a rifle and blew his head off on live TV. I saw it happen but it was so fast I didnโt realize what the guy was doing. They cut that feed so fast, and Gibson was very upset that he had witnessed that. Shit happens on live TV.
