Novo Nordisk is the maker behind Ozempic and Wegovy
The price of Novo Nordisk's blockbuster diabetes and weight loss-related drug Ozempic will be cut, according to President Donald Trump. Trump said this week during a White House event on fertility treatments and drug pricing the price reduction will come after swift negotiations with the drugmaker.
"They'll be much lower," Trump told reporters. Novo Nordisk is the maker of Ozempic and Wegovy, which have the same active ingredient, semaglutide, but they are approved for different uses. Ozempic was approved by federal health officials in 2017 and marketed for medical use in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes with weight loss being a side effect of the drug.
Wegovy was approved four years later specifically for chronic weight management in adults who are obese or overweight and have at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure or Type 2 diabetes. Both drugs have surged in demand in recent years, particularly for those seeking to lose weight. A customs investigator holds a package of Ozempic.

(From perplexity.ai) The main patent for Ozempic (semaglutide) is set to expire in most major markets in the early 2030s, with the U.S. patent expiring in 2032. However, in some countries—such as China and Canada—the patent protection will expire much earlier, starting in 2026.
Yiiippee!! Now I can get back on my Little Debbie diet.
Load up on the Swiss Rolls.
Friend of mine lost half her body weight taking one of those drugs. Who knew that a very pretty woman lived in that formerly fat body?
I wonder why she needed a drug. . Why didn’t she just stop eating the things that made her fat and exercise more? Easy for me to say, I weigh 114 and am NEVER hungry.
Heard that if you go on a fast for a few days, you lose your appetite. And there’s a group called TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). My friend goes there and honestly, I don’t see any difference. She has fun there and has made new friends.
My favorite. Love them with morning coffee.
Well yeah, because their regulatory exclusivity window will be closing soon, meaning the generics will start being made, and price competition happens.
That drug is another method the pharma industry is using to destroy lives.
Oh brother. Destroy lives? Going from 300lbs to 150lbs is “destroying lives”?
These drugs are a way for people with little self discipline and impulse control to easily lose weight. No ones life is being destroyed.
Americans need to get off their couches and stop stuffing their faces with junk food more than they need Cheap Ozempic — and it’s risk of long term side effects.
This just is not the proper role of government.
too many negative side effects, and likely long term issues will arise in plenty of people who use Rx method to lose weight.
Trump and Govt should not support these insane ways of “helping” people.
Yes food is addictive. Have companies stop being able to add all the crap they do in the US that other countries don’t allow and many people would start shedding excess weight just by that.
It contains gila monster venom as a blood thinner.
