A top US Army general stationed in South Korea said he’s been turning to an artificial intelligence chatbot to help him think through key command and personal decisions — the latest sign that even the Pentagon’s senior leaders are experimenting with generative AI tools.
Maj. Gen. William “Hank” Taylor, commanding general of the Eighth Army, told reporters at the Association of the United States Army conference in Washington, DC, that he’s been using ChatGPT to refine how he makes choices affecting thousands of troops.
“Chat and I have become really close lately,” Taylor said during a media roundtable Monday, though he shied away from giving examples of personal use. His remarks on ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, were reported by Business Insider.

Uh oh.
Ugh. Not sure that’s what you want to be telling the press. Or, by extension, your adversary.
Of course, it could also be intentional misinformation on the General’s part.
ChatGPT has been “trained” on successful military command history?
He shoulda used GROK
He should be kicked out.
I like asking these AI programs simple questions, such as “Is climate change man made?”
ChatGPT just said: “Yes, the overwhelming consensus among climate scientists is that climate change is largely human-made.”
My point is that this AI garbage is politically biased, or merely regurgitating what it has been taught.
I do use these AI sights for non-political research, and get fair to excellent results.
For the life of me, I can’t see some general using any AI to make command decisions.
Absolutely scary... AI “Slop” tactics now? This insanity is getting out of hand. AI is literally “Possessing” humans.
“Of course, it could also be intentional misinformation on the General’s part.”
But then again, he may be insane.
“Chat and I have become really close lately,” Taylor said.
That doesn’t sound right.
This will not end well.
He should be stripped of command and sent to Leavenworth.
AI has access to vast amounts of information that this general would otherwise have no access to. I have no issue with him using it to get better insights on the various issues he is dealing with.
Fact: For some people, ChatGPT is like Kleenex, basically the brand that became synonymous for the product no matter who makes it.
Supposition: he might be using a chat model (by OpenAI or other) on a private DOD cloud environment, and only for editing text to e-mails and memos and helping with reports. Simple stuff (which is what most executives are using it for), not for battle plans, which generals aren't doing on their own anyway.
Idiots!
This is a major security issue and this officer needs to be relieved of command immediately.
We’re all going to become Eloi soon, aren’t we?
Why does anyone believe this garbage?
lol — was thinking the same
