NEW YORK — Leaders of Young Republican groups throughout the country worried what would happen if their Telegram chat ever got leaked, but they kept typing anyway.
They referred to Black people as monkeys and “the watermelon people” and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies and driving them to suicide and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.
William Hendrix, the Kansas Young Republicans’ vice chair, used the words “n--ga” and “n--guh,” variations of a racial slur, more than a dozen times in the chat. Bobby Walker, the vice chair of the New York State Young Republicans at the time, referred to rape as “epic.” Peter Giunta, who at the time was chair of the same organization, wrote in a message sent in June that “everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber.”
Giunta was referring to an upcoming vote on whether he should become chair of the Young Republican National Federation, the GOP’s 15,000-member political organization for Republicans between 18 and 40 years old.

30 years ago, this type of behavior was limited to a bunch of losers on Usenet posting on accounts that hid their names. People under 40 have no memory of a world where this type of online behavior was not normalized to some degree. 90% of those participating in it don't actually agree with what they would call edgy ideas. It simply has become a very sick way of signaling participation in a group. But this is what happens when leaderships of groups allow this type of garbage to go on instead of calling the people out.
People on the left would simply quote different people for the most part, including bloodthirsty and murderous communists and anarchists. Although, when it comes to Israel, it's amazing how many people on the left will positively cite Nazis and Islamists. None of this should be remotely acceptable by anyone over the age of 18.
Odds are those who posted those messages were not Republicans. Just like the KKK were Democrats that hung around Republican rallies to bring Republicans in disrepute, the messengers are probably Democrats doing the same thing.
It’s called freedom of speech whether you like it or not. This is how you censor Fredrick Douglas, Mark Twain, and Dr Suess.
Their statements are indefensible. Thanks for not doing so.
Why couldn’t these young Republicans be perfect like the rest of us? /s
I think you’re deluded there. People know who they are, and they’ve long been involved in YR. It’s knuckleheads being knuckleheads.
Anybody who allowed them in, without thorough vetting, are knuckleheads. I just know how the left operates. The KKK historically would hang around Republican rallies to be associated with Republicans and then go vote Democrat.
While I certainly can’t say that everybody who hung around this chat were Democrats, it fits their Modis Operandi.
I haven’t seen too many people defend it. But my position is that there’s been so many hoaxes and set ups over the last decade, anytime I see something like this coming from a source like politico forgive me if I have a high , high degree of suspicion with it.
That is worth considering and I don’t dismiss it out of hand.
That sounds like the average modern rap recording to me.
It's "sheer", not "shear" - unless you're cutting something or fundraising for the Democrats.
They aren’t denying it. Many stepped down. VP Vance has said that their futures shouldn’t be destroyed
Disgusting behavior no doubt.
being in a club doesn’t mean you are true to the title of the club. at best they are wishy washy people, pretending one thing, while being another.
Fools saying stupid things in private. Is that a surprise or especially noteworthy as to the particulars? For the news media, yes, because it can be used to smear Republicans as racists.
Anyone who joined in on these chats, needs to go. No excuses. Leave!
Why would Republicans like Hitler? He was a radical leftist..basically a democrat.
Does anyone else smell a rat...?
Who are these guys and how much did the democrats pay them to do this?
