ALBANY – New York Attorney General Letitia James could soak taxpayers for millions of dollars in legal bills as she fights her new federal indictment — but she says she won’t be tapping into the $10 million state legal defense slush fund set up for that purpose.

Isn’t there something in the constitution about not using taxpayer money for private purposes?

It’d be one thing if she were sued in her role as AG while AG, but the mortgage bit is not associated with that.

I don’t know if this other fund includes taxpayer money or not.

“James’ attorney, Abbe Lowell, said the case “is driven by President Trump’s desire for revenge.”
That’s what he said about his client Hunter Biden’s charges too, lol
Shame Lateesha didn’t just offer the Bidens a mil for an auto pen pardon last January. Oh well.

This is the beauty of the situation - the process is the punishment AND the fine.

And yeah, she will probably be jury nullified with a hung jury by a deep blue jury but that just means DOJ gets to retry and at 10 mega bucks for each bite at the trial apple the next 4 years are going to be not so fun for Tish

She actually did the mortgage fraud. Its politcal how, exactly?

If prosecuting her for actual crimes is political, isn’t not prosecting her for actual crimes then, also political?

Why would President Trump exact "revenge" on Tish?

Did she do something to him?

James and Willis could use the restricted diet and exercise yard. My goodness, those two have quite the Hoochie Booties.

No feds would take those prosecutions of Trump. It took a while, a lot of cash, and a lot of promises, to find state prosecutors dumb enough to go after Trump. They found two of the most self absorbed greedy ghetto queens they could find.

She’s being prosecuted for acts she undertook as the Attorney General of New York. That means she’ll be indemnified by the state for her legal defense. Unless her official acts were illegal themselves, there’s nothing about her decisions that violated the law.

Whatever issues she has with her mortgage still will be litigated.

We don’t know if she committed mortgage fraud or not. Getting an indictment is one thing, but proving intent and reliance is another.

How do you legally get to use taxpayer dollars to defend yourself in court, for a crime you committed that had nothing to do with your official duties?

"She’s being prosecuted for acts she undertook as the Attorney General of New York."

Buying a second home for herself, and lying on the mortgage application has nothing to do with her official duties as Attorney General. When I was a New York State employee, which Letitia James is, if I went out and committed a crime on my personal time, the State certainly wasn't going to provide me with legal defense to fight the charges, and my ass would be out of a job ASAP.

I’m fine with revenge. We need more of it. They do it to us, we do it to them. Difference is they did the crime.

THIS CASE IS ABOUT HER PERSONAL BEHAVIOR-—OVER PERSONAL PURCHASES OF REAL ESTATE.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON THAT NEW YORK TAXPAYERS SHOULD BE PAYING A SINGLE PENNY FOR HER LEGAL FEES.

IF SHE WERE MARRIED & FILED FOR DIVORCE—AND THAT DIVORCE WAS CONTENTIOUS-—WOULD THE STATE PAY FOR HER DIVORCE LAWYER????

THIS IS NUTS.

The high cost of justice means for most there is no justice.

The should be a limit on what lawyers can charge on a case.

No, we do know that, its been documented in other stories and theres a paper trail going back years for multiple houses. The evidence is concrete.

Now she hasnt been tried and convicted yet, but she has committed multiple cases of mortgge fraud. We are just waiting to see if she’s going to be held accountable legally, for doing so.

From a prior posted story here, just a small recap:

“James received deals on mortgage terms by falsifying information related to several different properties over the course of decades — not including the 2020 purchase that led to Thursday’s charges. Pulte’s allegations include listing another home in Norfolk, Virginia, as her “principal residence” despite living and working in New York, buying a five-family property in Brooklyn with a loan that is only available for homes with four units or less, and an accusation that in 1983, James’ father signed mortgage documents stating they were husband and wife.”
