Trump says he'll send National Guard to Chicago, but details remain unclear

A White House spokesperson said the decision was made amid what it claimed were "ongoing violent riots and lawlessness"

President Donald Trump moved to deploy the National Guard in another city Saturday by authorizing 300 troops to protect federal officers and assets in Chicago, where the government said Border Patrol agents shot a woman — not fatally — while firing at someone who tried to run them over.

White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson confirmed that the president authorized using the Illinois National Guard members, citing what she called “ongoing violent riots and lawlessness” that local leaders have not quelled.

“President Trump will not turn a blind eye to the lawlessness plaguing American cities,” Jackson said.

Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker said the guard received notice from the Pentagon early in the day. He called the move unnecessary and “a manufactured performance — not a serious effort to protect public safety.”

“This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will,” Pritzker said in a statement. “It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.”

Trump has long threatened to send troops to Chicago, but it was not immediately clear when or exactly where they would be deployed.

Meanwhile the Department of Homeland Security acknowledged the shooting of the woman on the southwest side of Chicago. It said in a statement that Border Patrol agents on patrol “were rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars,” and when they got out of their trapped vehicle, “a suspect tried to run them over, forcing the officers to fire defensively.”

I'll probably get some serious flack for this but...

I think President Trump is making a mistake here.

Let me explain, he should be following Saul Alinsky's rule:

RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules. (This is a serious rule. The besieged entity’s very credibility and reputation is at stake, because if activists catch it lying or not living up to its commitments, they can continue to chip away at the damage.)

Rather than force sanctuary cities to accept NG troops, making him the bad guy, he should embrace sanctuary cities and announce that under no circumstances will federal agents remove any illegal alien from a sanctuary city.

Force the sanctuary cities to totally and solely own the crime and squalor. It's their city and their rule, make them live by it by themselves!

Crack down on illegal aliens where they are not coddled by the locals. This will have the support of the locals!

Never actually say "illegals go home" or -God forbid!- move to a sanctuary city. They'll figure that out all by themselves and make the move on their own time and own dime.

Eventually (it takes a while for liberals to wake up)

the sanctuary cities will be victims of their own rules.

At that point, without actually admitting they were wrong, they will be begging for help.

Now the National Guard and President are viewed as saviors and heroes...
