Russia fires 500 drones at Ukraine in deadly overnight attack, Zelenskyy says
ABC News ^ | Oct 5, 2025 | David Brennan

Zelenskyy said that at least five people were killed and 10 injured across Ukraine. Impacts were reported in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa and Kirovohrad regions, the president wrote in a Telegram post.

Russia launched some 500 strike drones and 50 missiles, Zelenskyy said. "Today the Russians again struck our infrastructure, everything that ensures a normal life for people," he wrote.

"More protection is needed, faster implementation of all defense agreements, especially regarding air defense, to make this aerial terror meaningless," he added.

"A unilateral ceasefire in the sky is possible, and it could open the way to real diplomacy," Zelenskyy said. "America and Europe must act to force Putin to stop."

From the standpoint of bringing offensive drones in, the US is wide open. Millions of shipping containers come into the country every year. If someone can bring in millions of pounds of cocaine, then bringing in thousands of drones would be easy. You could even ship them in as drones. Have them picked up by some of the six hundred thousand students you shipped in and relocated to within striking distance of whatever target would hurt America the most.

Unless you want to lie awake staring at a dark ceiling, try not to think about that. It seems no one else is worried about it.

....A unilateral ceasefire....

A unilateral surrender would end this war

Russia announced 2 goals. Eliminate the capability of The Ukraine army to wage war on Russian people. Then, remove a corrupt gubmint installed by Victoria Nuland et all

“Then, remove a corrupt gubmint installed by Victoria Nuland et all”

It’s mind boggling how the American people let a bureaucrat like Nuland run a war.

The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East may end up being worth every penny we have spent if it wakes up our political and military leaders to the dangers we face from drones.

The effectiveness of these systems for asymmetric warfare can be stunning.

The small FPV drones are not always as valuable on the battlefield (I'd rather carry a claymore than an FPV drone with a grenade ) and they are being used more because of the shortage of howitzer shells.

They are really great for covert attacks against soft, high value targets like unprotected aircraft, power stations and refineries,

A few semi truck loads these things could take out our military and commercial airfields in short order.

In fact, a modern update on al Qaeda’s strategy of using airliners as weapons would be to take out 10 or so Boeing 747 or other wide body airliners lined up waiting for take off and filled with a collective total several million pounds of jet fuel. Those things are like big , fat sitting ducks.

Way easier than a Stinger missile and the drones can be purchased over the counter for way less than a stinger

I’m surprised no one has flown a model airplane containing a stick of dynamite into an airliner already. At most airports you can stand on the edge of the runway on a commercial road and guide it in by sight. I don’t think that the lack of this kind of attack can be entirely attributed to our awesome intelligence network. I think it’s because most of the people who would do that, until Biden, were outside the US. Then he brought in this type of attacker by the hundreds. Perhaps they’re all sitting at home in government housing watching free Netflix.

Those are complete Russian propaganda lies, and you well know it.
Here's the truth:

  1. Both Zelensky and his "European familiars" are America's allies, NATO members or Partners For Peace.

  2. Russia, like the Old USSR, is our enemy, not our friend.

  3. US aid to Ukraine, authorized by the previous Congress, continues as scheduled, much of it sent to Europe to replace weapons & other materials supplied by Europeans to Ukraine.

  4. There are few restrictions (i.e., Tomahawks) on what weapons and other equipment Europeans and Ukraine can buy from the US.

  5. Russian ilitary operations in Ukraine have not gone well, which is why Russians launch daily drone & missile swarms against Ukrainian civilian targets.
Of course, you know all that, but still chose to babble stupid Russian propaganda anyway.

Why?

If “peace is given a chance” on Putin’s terms, it will be like what happened in Cambodia after “peace was given a chance” and the communist Khmer Rouge murdered millions of Cambodians in the Killing Fields. Wait and see.

After getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia Military and Economic situation and, after seeing the Economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form. With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original Borders from where this War started, is very much an option. Why not? Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years a War that should have taken a Real Military Power less than a week to win. This is not distinguishing Russia. In fact, it is very much making them look like “a paper tiger.” When the people living in Moscow, and all of the Great Cities, Towns, and Districts all throughout Russia, find out what is really going on with this War, the fact that it’s almost impossible for them to get Gasoline through the long lines that are being formed, and all of the other things that are taking place in their War Economy, where most of their money is being spent on fighting Ukraine, which has Great Spirit, and only getting better, Ukraine would be able to take back their Country in its original form and, who knows, maybe even go further than that! Putin and Russia are in BIG Economic trouble, and this is the time for Ukraine to act. In any event, I wish both Countries well. We will continue to supply weapons to NATO for NATO to do what they want with them. Good luck to all!

DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Yes, good luck Ukraine.

Ukraine now operating in 3 man street gangs, but they're still running away. Don't worry though, the Russians are "running out of missiles".

"Of course, you know all that, ..."

How is anybody supposed to know anything in today's world? Nobody I know even bothers to watch the news anymore.

Personally, I have trouble seeing past our own corruption to see corruption in Russia or any other country.

Steven Tyler: "Russia announced 2 goals.
Eliminate the capability of The Ukraine army to wage war on Russian people.
Then, remove a corrupt gubmint installed by Victoria Nuland et all"

Putin's Dmitry "Mini-me" Medvedev showing
map of Russia's goals in Ukraine as of 2024:

Those are only the two goals you chose to hear.
Russian officials and official propagandists have announced many other goals including:

  1. Disarmed & legally neutralized/neutered Ukraine (your first point)

  2. Installation of a Russian puppet regime to rule over Ukraine (your second point)

  3. Annexation of Crimea

  4. Annexation of Luhansk and Donetsk

  5. Annexation of Kherson and Zaporizhya

  6. Conquest of Odessa and Kharkiv

  7. No NATO membership or presence in Ukraine, or in other ex-Soviet countries i.e., Moldova, Georgia, Central Asia.

  8. Deactivation of NATO in countries admitted to NATO after 1997, withdrawal of NATO forces & weapons from those countries.

  9. No NATO deployment of intermediate missiles in Europe.

  10. Russian language reinstated as Ukraine's co-official language.

  11. Legal immunity for Russian war crimes.

  12. Rewriting Ukrainian history -- erasing narratives of independence, framing Ukraine as an artificial state.

  13. Delegitimizing Western alliances -- framing Russian invasions as a civilizational clash against “decadent” Western values.

  14. Russian land bridge to Transnistria, including Ukraine's Mykolaiv and Odessa oblasts.

  15. Absorption of Belarus into a unified military-political structure.

  16. Retaking Baltic states ("denazify" and "demilitarize")

    Putin awards Solovyov:

  17. Official propagandist Vladimir Solovyov (October 3, 2025): “We could have simply destroyed everything.
    We had a different objective.
I think we should go all the way to Lisbon
There are 500 million of them (Europeans) and 140 million of us.
We can go all the way there, but how do we hold it?
    Over scorched Earth?
    After nuclear strikes?
    That’s one option.”

  18. Solovyov (August 2025): “If we don’t win, we won’t exist.”

  19. Removal of Western Sanctions and restoring Russian Western assets.
So, Russians have a very long list of grievances and demands.
If you fantasize that you can make them happy by giving in to one or two of those, you're only dreaming.

I think the best comment I’ve heard in a while is (paraphrasal):

“WHY would the West want to wage war on Russia?”

The answer is that there is no reason except Russian generated nonsense.

Russia has nothing the West wants, except cheap resources, and Russian businesses (at least in normal times) were willing to sell oil, gas, uranium, grain, etc., for far less than the cost of going in and getting them ourselves.
