Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer says that there’s only one party that wants to shut the government down. He’s right: it’s only Democrats who won’t allow the Senate a few more weeks at current spending levels to agree on a new budget.
The shutdown highlights three weaknesses undermining the Democrat Party as we head toward next year’s midterm elections.
First, the left wing of the party is running the show. Schumer is terrified of being primaried by New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC); his obstinance is a matter of survival, not conscience.
Second, President Trump has pushed Democrats to burrow into their far-left rabbit holes by occupying the all-powerful center.
Third, Democrats are pushing endlessly to spend more money; voters think that’s a mistake.
Schumer, battered by angry Democrats after he worked with the Republicans in March to keep the government running, learned his lesson. He was accused of “surrendering” to Republicans by Democrats furious at the impotence of their party. After he cast that fateful vote, many on the left pushed for progressive darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to challenge Schumer in the 2028 Senate primary.
This is not an idle threat. In the fury that followed the March face-off over spending, polling by left-leaning Data for Progress found that “Democratic voters nationwide want him to fight harder against President Donald Trump and the Republican agenda.” It also found that Schumer had the “lowest favorability of all New York Democrats” among primary voters, and that he trails Ocasio-Cortez by 19 points in a hypothetical primary.
Schumer is playing defense. Formerly an adamant opponent of shutdowns, he could not possibly agree to the most recent funding measure. Hence the...

And fourth, the dems have absolutely no sense of humor. Amy Klobuchar saying, “That’s not funny!” at the hilarious Trump’s memes of Dollar Store Obama in mustache and sombrero.
The GOP in the center means there’s no hope of cutting the obscene level of spending.
Democrats are destroying themselves and I feel fine. Both wings are nothing without the other and they can’t even compromise amongst themselves, let alone with Republicans.
Big problem is that on all the 80:20 issues, Dems are on the 20% side of the issue.
It blows my mind that Trump and the GOP are ready to die on the hill of not forcing the taxpayers to provide free healthcare to illegal aliens.

The Hill is a total left wing publication. If they have to admit this then that means they have nothing positive/or anti-Trump to tell their leftist followers to repeat. Democrat voters, especially the illegal voters, are fine with spending. They just have no way of being able to talk about it. They would sound like total idiots
The elephant in the room weakness exposed is the inability of leftist rags like the Hill here to put a positive spin on the shutdown. Leftists love the government. They hate that it’s shut down. Regular people don’t care.
I think that the Republicans were going to cave but Trump has threatened to primary them. But at some point, they may have to use the nuclear option.
Note Democrats use the word “Americans” losing healthcare and not US Citizens. Someone also should calculate how much their demands add to the debt?

Every now and then President Trump needs to remind Republicans that they won.
And while there may be a few Dem senators in states that Trump won whose arms he can twist, the nuclear option might be inevitable.
Trump has already crossed the Rubicon at this point. If the Dems ever regain control, they're going to send him (and countless who worked alongside him) to prison. They've already demonstrated their willingness to do as much.
