US Tomahawk missile shipments to Ukraine unlikely, sources say

WASHINGTON, Oct 2 (Reuters) - The Trump Administration's desire to send long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine may not be viable because current inventories are committed to the U.S. Navy and other uses, a U.S. official and three sources said.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday that Washington was considering a Ukrainian request to obtain long-range Tomahawks that could create havoc deep into Russia, including Moscow. On Wednesday, Reuters reported, opens new tab the U.S. will provide Ukraine with intelligence on long-range energy infrastructure targets in Russia.

But a U.S. official and sources familiar with Tomahawk missile training and supplies questioned the feasibility of providing the cruise missiles, which have a range of 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles).

The U.S. official stressed there was no shortage of the workhorse weapon, which is often used by the military for land attack missions, suggesting other shorter-distance options could be supplied to Kyiv.

This is good news. President Trump never wanted this, imo.

Doesn’t matter, they already got all the excited press coverage and will now keep quiet about it never happening.

I don’t believe he ever wanted this to happen either, and furthermore, I doubt he would have ever followed through on it no matter what.

It is called “negotiation”.

No wonder he has them on their heels. This is how negotiation is done in real life, not in some fake bubble called government. They have no idea how to deal with it.

Of course, I don’t know for sure what is in his head either, but...I know better than to approach my opponent and present them with a bargaining chip I don’t have, when they know I don’t have it.

They obviously have no idea whether he will or won’t do.

The U.S. can look to get them from inventories of them sent to the U.K., Australia, Netherlands and Japan, offering to replace them later.

Odd phrasing. What you meant is Ukraine can look to get them from inventories in the UK, Australia etc, who can place an order for more of them from the US at retail pricing — provided the US approves those being sent from UK etc inventory.

Reuters is lying, as usual. President Trump never had any 'desire' to send missiles to Ukraine. Zelensky has already tried at least 2 false flags with missiles, and appears to be planning another.

Trump tried repeatedly to negotiate peace before washing his hands of the matter and moving on to focus on US defense (i.e., He has better things to do).

Reuters and others continue to imply that President Trump intends those weapons the US sells to NATO to be given to Ukraine. This is another lie. President Trump said the US sells weapons to NATO, and NATO can do whatever it wants with them. President Trump has pressured NATO to build up it's atrophied military and I suspect NATO will keep much or most of the equipment purchased for NATO members. All know that Ukraine is losing the war - why would Trump send new arms to continue it?

“Odd phrasing.”

No. It was Trump’s offer/idea to get them to the Ukraine from the U.S. If we cannot fulfill our own offer/idea, it is we who can ask our other partners if they can contribute some of their inventory now, and we will restock them later. Ukraine paying for the inventory itself or via the EU or us is not the question.

The whole question is how can the U.S. provide what it is offering.

“””””All know that Ukraine is losing the war - why would Trump send new arms to continue it?”””””

Yet that he is, and new factories and old renewed factories are firing on all cylinders to keep those weapons flowing.
