President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the Gaza war has not only won support from Israel, but also from the Arab and Muslim world — and from the Palestinian Authority, which has opposed his plans in the past.
The 20-point plan, as Breitbart News has noted, would fulfill Israel’s goals of freeing the remaining hostages, as well as disarming Hamas and removing it from power. It also offers the prospect of a Palestinian state — if Hamas complies with the plan and the Palestinian Authority agrees to sweeping reforms of its policies and anti-Israel culture.
If Hamas does not agree, the plan allows Israel to continue fighting the terror group.
Trump canvassed for support for the plan among Arab and Muslim nations on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York last week. The plan includes key Arab demands, such as the inclusion of the Palestinian Authority in the future governance of Gaza (together with other Arab states). It also prevents Israel from annexing Gaza, and does not mention Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).
The Times of Israel noted: “Shortly after the press conference [by Trump and Netanyahu at the White House on Monday], the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Qatar, and Egypt issued a joint statement welcoming Trump’s efforts and pledging to engage with the US to advance the implementation of the Gaza peace plan.”
Al Jazeera noted that the Palestinian Authority — which has been making commitments to reform in a bid to win backing for statehood — also welcomed Trump’s plan.

Nope. Complete non-starter. Back to the drawing board.

If this works, Pres. Trump will go down in history as one of the greatest peacemakers of all time in the entire world’s history. My prayers this evolves into lasting peace. One thing that bothers me is my distrust of the Muslims, but they know what we are capable of after the obliteration of Iran’s nuke sites.
And that is precisely the attitude that has feed Hamas.
> My prayers this evolves into lasting peace. <
Yes, indeed, But you are right about your mistrust of Muslims. It would be one thing if they were just another political group, open to reason and compromise.
But Islam is a political group, plus a fanatical religious group, plus a cult of violence and conquest. Such a combination is not open to reason and compromise.
Sorry for the pessimism. Perhaps Trump will be able to broker a cease fire that will last for a few years. Then it will be back to the low-level violence, and the “Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea.” stuff.
I don’t have a solution. Because I don’t think there is one.
🙁
Unfortunately, it’s a total non-starter. And attempting to negotiate either terrorist murder gangs like fakestinians’ PLO Fatah Hamas Hezbalkah etcetera only enables them to prepare more attacks and shootings.
That does not speaak well of the Plan.
While Hamas is still studying the plan and has not yet responded, except to say that it rejects the idea of disarming, it now finds itself almost completely alone.
However, both Islamic Jihad and DFLP (and the Houtis) have rejected the plan. That will make it harder for Hamas to accept it.
OTOH they will be exposed to hard pressure from Qatar. According to CBS Hamas is leaning towards accepting the plan.
We will see.
Same for me. But I ain’t in charge. No even the prospect.
The Palestinians have never lived up to anything and they won’t live up to this either. They will only use it to buy time to rearm for future strikes against Israel.
9/11 should have woken the world up. And perhaps for a few moments it did. I recall reading about an American who happened to be in Greece on 9/11. He said Greeks were going up to him, and expressing their support for America.
That was the time for a righteous crusade against radical Islam.
But then that fool George W. Bush told us “Islam is peace.”
And so here we are.
Perhaps, rather than a sovereign state, the West Bank Arabs can enjoy limited self-government status as a dependency of Israel. They would not have Israeli citizenship, nor any ‘right to return’ nor an independent foreign policy but perhaps have the ability to issue passports.
It would be to Israel’s advantage to see the West Bank Arabs happy, prosperous and peaceful.
A Palestinian state could be very dangerous in several ways. Dangerous for Israel,of course...and it could even become a huge naval and air base for China. Given what China’s doing in Africa they’d surely be willing to give them $50 billion in exchange for military bases.
President Trump is being intentionally vague about how this plan will work to get it across the line and end the fighting.
Once that has occurred and the framework is in place many things are possible.
President Trump has made sure that he is going to be the Chairman of the Board of the authority and he will have full executive control
After the fighting has been mopped up and the area is reasonably safe to send reconstruction experts it is going to be obvious that the Gaza is going to need a lot of survey work above and below ground before work can even begin to clean up the toxic debris.
Once a survey is completed a rational plan can be formulated. That plan will probably look a lot like Trump's plan to relocate the Gaza population while the extensive remediation takes place.
I have doubts that Gaza will ever be rebuilt for the broad based return of the Gaza population but will be dedicated to various US- Israeli -Saudi led Gulf Oil states and perhaps EU joint venture projects
I’m fine with a Pali state as long as we locate it on Venus.
What I see with the Trump Gaza Plan is what was done in every Israeli-Arab War since them first one. In every previous conflict the Arabs\Palestinians are on the ropes the West steps in ends the conflict. The Arabs\Palestinians promise peace forever more if there is some little Israeli concession. Israel concedes something “peace” last long enough for the Arabs\Palestinians to rearm\regroup next conflict starts. It’s a soothing self fooling lie to state war solves nothing. A war not seen to it logical conclusion solves nothing except sets the table for the next war. Hamas asked for war let them see war until they are extinct! Let that be the logical conclusion and a lesson to others.
