Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted on criminal charges of false statements and obstruction on Thursday, a person familiar with the move said, in an escalation of President Donald Trump's campaign to pursue justice against people he says have wrongfully criticized him and spearheaded trumped-up investigations.
In a social media post on X, Attorney General Pam Bondi said the indictment shows the Justice Department's commitment to accountability.
"No one is above the law," she posted early Thursday evening. "Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case."
Trump fired Comey in 2017, early in the Republican president's first term in office.
He has since regularly assailed Comey's handling of the FBI investigation that detailed contacts between Russians and Trump's 2016 campaign. Since Trump returned to office in January, his Justice Department has been examining Comey's 2020 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee when he addressed Republican criticisms of the Russia investigation and denied that he had authorized disclosures of sensitive information to the news media.

Guess Trump should of gone behind the scenes, had his sycophant assistants approach power hunger AG's around the country to go after the leader's enemies like Biden did! Come on, they only got 2 out of 3 indictments from the grand jury
On top of that - mainstream media is already releasing internal DOJ memos
recommending against prosecution because they don’t have a case.
I don’t like this anymore than most here - but be prepared for
not guilty verdict in Virginia.

What I am hearing from DoJ sources:
The Comey indictment is among the worst abuses in DOJ history. Shocking. It’s hard to overstate how a big a moment this is.
