The U.S. Treasury announced on Wednesday it will grant a full-on bailout for Argentina, which includes the purchase of the country’s USD bonds, a stand-by credit line, and a US$20 billion swap with the Central Bank.
“The Trump Administration is resolute in our support for allies of the United States, and President Trump has given President Milei a rare endorsement of a foreign official, showing his confidence in his government’s economic plans and the geopolitical strategic importance of the relationship between the United States and Argentina,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent posted on X.

Fake news?
The US is broke and can’t bail out anyone
It’s bigger than that. The idea is that Millei gets re-elected as President and he could lead a reform (by example) of all of Latin America.
Send us beef!
We’re able to do this because we’re the richest country on Earth with $37 trillion in debt.
WTFFF???
Where’s Judge Boasberg?
Cry for me, Argentina.
Do we get the Falklands?
“It’s bigger than that. The idea is that Millei gets re-elected as President and he could lead a reform (by example) of all of Latin America.”
Throughout history, when lives and values were on the line, people followed military leaders that achieved success on the battlefield. Millei has truly, in a short period of time, been successful at turning Argentina around. His influence is spreading to other nations. Instead of ‘Socialists, Socialist Dictators, Communists, and Communist dictators’ Millei pushed for limited government spending and economic growth. It’s working.
Trump should back the winner that is smart and effective. This is the ‘common sense’ that’s been missing from US policy most of my life.
Do we at least get discounts on our polo ponies?
At this stage they buy back bad paper and pay them with more bad paper.
It is just one big game of Monopoly with bigger bills.
“‘common sense’ that’s been missing from US policy most of my life.”
Isn’t that the truth? It’s true of all government at every level all of my 74 years. So little basic common sense and governing FOR the people, not against them.
And, some good Malbec!
Bankrupting ourselves in pursuit of prosperity.
Argentina has the assets to secure repayment to the US by development of their massive shale oil deposits — no doubt now to be led by US companies. In addition, Argentina will drop the anti-American policies that have long vexed the US State Department and a long line of presidents.
How about quit hamstringing ranchers and farmers here and raise our own beef. Why import what we can raise here? Factoring in shipping we aren’t saving money.
This is what the Monroe Doctrine looks like without a functional American CIA.
America may never get the Chinese out of South America, or Canada, for that matter.
And quality leather goods!
LOL...”beef and Malbec!” Now you’re talking!
