The assassination of Charlie Kirk has ignited a cultural reckoning - and chilling new figures reveal a deep and widening gap in how Americans think about political violence.
According to new YouGov polling, almost one in four Americans identifying as 'very liberal', 24 percent, believe it's acceptable to celebrate a political opponent's death.
Among those who call themselves 'very conservative', just three percent find it acceptable to feel happy about the death of a public figure they disagree with.
The chasm widens in the younger generation. Among liberals aged 18 to 44, a whopping 22 percent think it's acceptable to celebrate political deaths. Just six percent of conservatives in the same age bracket believe it's permissible.
The survey suggests conservatives overwhelmingly reject political violence and its celebration, while liberals, especially younger and more radical ones, show far more permissiveness. Kirk's murder shows just how dangerous that gulf has become.
Historically, political violence in America skewed to the right.
DOJ data show that since 1990, far-right extremists were responsible for more than 520 ideologically motivated murders, compared to 78 by far-left actors. But since 2020, that dynamic has changed.
The Cato Institute reports that right-wing attackers now account for just over half of such murders, but left-wing violence has surged to 22 percent, and Islamist violence makes up the rest.

Looking at social media and actually talking to people I’d say more than half are not only okay with violence they actively support it.
The only reason the scoring is so low is they thought they’d be ratted out to the feds for saying what they really think.

Notice how badly the left has treated everybody in this country, at a point in time when there are approximately 500 million guns in civilian hands. Now imagine what happens if they can get that number down to something like 5 million or 10 million. There would be a massacre that would make Stalin look like a piker.
I have known for decades that the statement you made is absolutely true. My extended family had about 75 of its members murdered by Hitler and his goons, and one of my great grandfathers was murdered by the NKVD - as a 74 year-old suffering from cancer (he must’ve been a terrible threat to Stalin’s power). This is what collectivists do, they gain power, and then they abuse it. Their reason for being is exactly that - the purpose of power is power, according to their “morality,” and they will do or say anything in order to obtain it. If we don’t learn that, we are doomed as a free society, and some of us are literally doomed.
I have to admit to having some joy over the deaths of some particularly odious individuals, mostly from the left. However I would never say anything out loud or even act happy. Nobody would ever know.
1. I think there’s a big difference between somebody dying of natural causes and political murder. Celebrating the former is not even in the same galaxy as celebrating the latter.
2. I don’t believe a lot of these stats compiled by leftist groups claiming that political violence is mostly on the Right. My observations of the last 10-15 years at least say the exact opposite.

I don’t believe that for a minute.
A Democrat killed Abraham Lincoln.
They killed John F. Kennedy, then they killed the guy who killed Kennedy.
Then there’s the killings of Presidents James Garfield and William McKinley. Garfield’s presidency was marked by efforts to reform the civil service and combat corruption. Hmmm, sounds familiar. William McKinley was known for implementing tariffs to support American industry. Again, sounds familiar. I don’t know who killed the two of them, but I have my suspicions.
They killed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
They tried to kill President Gerald Ford several times but always missed.
They tried to kill President Ronald Reagan. They did hit him, but he survived.
They’ve tried to kill President Donald Trump twice. So far. I expect more attempts.
Backing up, they killed hundreds of thousands in the Civil War. Democrats didn’t like that we took away their slaves away from them and so they started killing the former slaves and their decedents via lynch mobs in white robes and hats.
The Vietnam War was started by a Democrat, Lyndon Johnson. That war killed a friend of mine, wounded my brother, and wounded my cousin who suffers from PTSD to this day.
I think the Democrat-infested CIA may have set up George W. Bush with their probably fake reports about Yellowcake in Iraq. Another war; more killing, and Yellowcake which was never found in Iraq.
Democrats are strongly in favor of killing preborn babies, and strongly opposed to executing convicted murderers. Never mind that the murderers had trials and decades of appeals in most cases. Millions and millions of preborn babies have been killed, but it’s still not enough for the Democrats. They want to make abortion legal up to birth, and some want it to be legal for a period of time after birth! Kill the innocent, spare the guilty, that’s their position.
And then there’s all the killing in our cities. There are nearly 10 killings every weekend in Chicago., so around 500+ per year. And I don’t think Chicago is even the worst city for killings. Others with high killing rates are New Orleans, Memphis, St. Louis, and probably others. Most of these killings occur in Democrat-run big cities. Democrats say we have a gun problem and want to confiscate everyone’s guns. But out where I live, pretty much everyone has a gun, and many have several guns. Yet I’ve never heard of a single murder out here in the 12 years since I’ve lived here. We don’t have a gun problem; we have a behavior problem.
That’s about all I have to say about that (for now).
The crime stats are absurd because they are focused on things like a white man with a swastika tattoo doing a crime that had nothing to do with politics, while lots of times leftists do crimes and it’s simply not counted as leftist violence. That’s the norm. The violent crimes during the BLM riots weren’t counted as left-wing violence. The trans shooter in MN who hated Christian, Jews, and Donald Trump isn’t counted as left-wing violence. Luigi Mangione and his hit on a CEO isn’t counted as left-wing violence, etc., etc. Heck, the media even tried to wildly downplay the political motivations of a Bernie Bro leftist trying to murder dozens of Republican Congressmen and Senators on a baseball field.
