Dave Portnoy expanded on his controversial Jimmy Kimmel tweet on Thursday morning after the comedian’s late-night show was indefinitely suspended. The Barstool Sports founder claimed the decision by Disney to yank “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” off the air was not about “cancel culture” in a tweet shortly after the news surfaced — eliciting a mixed response from his 3.7 million followers. Portnoy, who frequently dives into political discussions on social media, doubled down on his “unique” stance in a four-and-a-half-minute video posted Thursday to his social media channels. “To me, this is not cancel culture at all,” Portnoy said. “ What cancel culture is, is when you don’t like someone. Say me. ‘We want to get rid of Dave. So we are going to comb through everything Dave has said for the past 20 years, and we are going to find things we don’t like that don’t fit in this time period,’ whatever. That’s cancel culture to me.”
Kimmel faced backlash after he characterized Tyler Robinson, the student who allegedly shot conservative activist Charlie Kirk with a rifle from the roof of a building between 100 and 200 yards away, as a part of the “MAGA gang.” “This is not a free speech issue to me. I have always said to our employees, you can say whatever you want on your personals, but your speech has consequences. If advertisers or people start putting pressure on me because you’re saying things that they don’t like, this is a capitalist market — if the juice isn’t worth the squeeze, decisions have to be made…
“His ratings are clearly down, he’s making a ton of money. He’s creating, clearly, headaches for ABC and the affiliate. He’s not a journalist. This isn’t freedom of the press.

Kimmel is free to say whatever the hell he wants. Just not on ABC. He can start a podcast like Scott Adams and Tucker Qatarlson did.
yes
Jimmy Kimmel’s show, like many others, was done once President Trump shut off the USAID money.
He is Tucker Carlson and he has been a close friend of Charlie Kirk since Charlie was 18.
He is hosting Charlie’s Show with the people very close to Charlie as we speak.
Maybe that tone deaf Ted Cruz (Turncoat TX) could review this simple concept. He says the FCC is wrong and dangerous. The FCC has rules for network TV. The FCC oversees the intent of these networks
Kimmel can say whatever he wants to say. He needs to simply get a producer willing to set him up to say it or he can do a garage nightly show. My brother has a garage band. They could do and say whatever they wanted. And they were good. The audience was like 10 on a crowded night. When they played at a party it was about 300. Baby boomers. Suburbs
Kimmel can do that with his schtick. The FCC not only would say anything, they wouldn’t care
Carlson has long had a contentious relationship with conservatives. In the 2000’s he played a seld-hating conservative on TV. Then he was a Democrat for 14 years.
they mock Kirk’s assassination, they decry Kimmel’s dismissal — whatever
Thank you but I stole that from someone else. I forget who (whom?).
Has anyone ever been punished for lying on television?
What did Ted Cruz say?
I really don’t care about who did what years ago. POTUS was a big democrat. So was Ronald Reagan.
People get to change and grow. There is no obligation to be stuck in a position we took in the past.
There are probably people posting on this site who have evolved from positions they once held in the past and now see life differently.
The Texas Republican, in a new episode of his podcast released Sept. 19, compared Carr’s tactics to those of a mob boss as he denounced the FCC chairman’s threats to revoke ABC’s television license before the network indefinitely suspended “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
Yes, but some of them evolved in a good way. Carlson has evolved to put foreign powers ahead of the U.S. And to be against Christians and Jews. That’s his right, but don’t expect me to cheer. I a sure Charlie Kirk told him the same thing.
It was a good show today. I almost didn’t watch because Tucker was on, but I’m glad I did. Re Israel: He didn’t go there today.
It seems that they were more like brothers than just friends; I didn’t realize how close they really were.
And they said he’s going to be involved in the Turning Point organization to some degree.
“Has anyone ever been punished for lying on television?”
If that could happen, there’d be no MSM at all. They lie every day all day long.
This article seems to suffer like those who write of “they/them” when they’re actually about one individual person. I read through this twice trying to find the ‘comedian’ mentioned but only saw Jimmy Kimmel as the subject.
I think the FCC has rules. The network heads has the FCC and their sponsors to answer to
Cruz thinks the FCC is responsible for and he’s a senator.
“Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas sharply criticized Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr.
“He says, ‘We can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way’ ... that’s right out of Goodfellas,” Cruz said of Carr.
Cruz’s comments put him at odds with President Donald Trump, who applauded Kimmel’s suspension and later called Carr “outstanding.”
In which case, I think that “whom” would be correct in your sentence.
