Please let’s give ourselves a decade pause on any immigration, including the ongoing family chain migration, while we expel those already here illegally.
still cheap - should be at least $250k
It sounds like Trump was listening to the people who were saying that H-1B was crippling the job prospects of US tech graduates,
ha no worries, the 600,000 chinese students that President Trump let in will fill those jobs in no time.
The current system is a lottery. Indian tech shops have abused the system by putting in lots of applications, hoping to get lucky in the lottery. This measure is a fee on the APPLICATION, which should shut that scam down.
Can’t be fixed, would be better to just end the whole thing.
The premise of H1B is that companies need to bring in skilled migrants for work that no Americans are able to do.
the premise itself is ridiculous
America is a nation of 350 million people, with research universities and colleges that supposedly are so advanced, they are hosting 600K foreign students every year. We give $$billion in foreign aid and technical assistance, etc...
And yet we supposedly CAN’T find such skilled labor her in the USA? Its absurd.
tech ping
And I was only saying it should be 50k annual fee
Kirk didn’t die in vain it looks.
in the 90s when I worked for Microsoft there were a few H1b holders
in the 2010s seems like it was over 50% in engineering.
when the Hiring manager was .Indian anyone he hired would also be .Indian I said he on purpose cause the female .indians were not managers, but worked much harder, and were treated like crap for their trouble.
Today I do not know for sure, but I am guessing it is far worse than when I left.
The other problem is that all the H1B people work here for 10 years so they can be collect social security at the highest payout cause they were earning $150k+ per year for those 10 years then go back to their country and work (but social security does not know they are working)
if you are not a citizen and are here on an H1b I believe you should pay into Social security as an additional tax but never be able to collect it, this could save the whole system
They’re on student visas and can’t work.
Infosys stock falls after report of Trump’s $100,000 H-1B visa fee plan

Investing.com — Infosys (NYSE:INFY) stock fell as much as 4.5% on Friday following reports that President Donald Trump is expected to sign a proclamation requiring a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications, in a move aimed at curbing what the administration views as program abuse.
Other major users of the H-1B visa program also saw their shares decline, with Cognizant Technology (NASDAQ:CTSH) dropping 4.3% and Accenture (NYSE:ACN) falling 1.3%. The proposed fee represents a significant increase that could impact the business models of these companies, which rely heavily on the visa program to bring foreign workers to the United States.
And... what happens when one of Trump's Tech Bro buddies complains? What loopholes are there? What happens when another Uniparty scum gets into the White House?
Enough of the D.C. B.S. shuffle - END THE H-1B PROGRAM IN ITS ENTIRETY.
They should give the H1B’s that are already here a break. They can pay only $95,000.
Labor is a product...
This is a tariff on importing that foreign product over the American product
that’s a good thing
If That particular labor is something unique that you need to import it...
I have no problem and you as a company should have no problem paying for it...
If you’re just trying to import cheap labor to undercut American workers
well I guess now it’s not so cheap
The worst part is over the long-haul, fewer Americans were even interested in those fields, so then importing working did become a necessity.
It will take awhile for Americans to ramp back up. But it has to happen sometime.
Don’t worry, our bureaucrats will find a workaround for them.
When I retired, I turned over several hundred thousand lines of kickass code to a group of Indian developers. They tried to rewrite it in java. One night my phone rang...
