Police clash with far-right protesters, make arrests after more than 100,000 rally in London 'Unite the Kingdom' march organized by nationalist, anti-Islam influencer Tommy Robinson

A London march organized by far-right activist Tommy Robinson drew more than 100,000 people and became unruly on Saturday as a small group of his supporters clashed with police officers who were separating them from counter-protesters.

Several officers were punched, kicked and struck by bottles tossed by people at the fringes of the "Unite the Kingdom" rally, Metropolitan Police said. Reinforcements with helmets and riot shields were deployed to support the 1,000-plus officers on duty.

At least nine people were arrested, but police indicated that many other offenders had been identified and would be held accountable.

Police estimated that Robinson drew about 110,000 people, while the rival "March Against Fascism" protest organized by Stand Up to Racism had about 5,000 marchers.

Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, founded the nationalist and anti-Islam English Defence League and is one of the most influential far-right figures in Britain.

Tommy Robinson has been accused of using online misinformation to stoke anti-Muslim sentiment, like what was seen at anger-filled riots across the U.K. this week. CBC’s Thomas Daigle has been reporting on the prominent far-right provocateur for years and breaks down Robinson’s motivations and influence. The march was billed as a demonstration in support of free speech — with much of the rhetoric by influencers and several far-right politicians from across Europe aimed largely at the perils of migration, a problem much of the continent is struggling to control.

"We are both subject to the same process of the great replacement of our European people by peoples coming from the south and of Muslim culture, you and we are being colonized by our former colonies," far-right French politician Eric Zemmour said.

I saw drone footage of the crowd.

Way more than 100k. Probably 3-7 times more.

My first thought was “Paid provocateurs fight with police to discredit the movement”. Just me?

“drew more than 100,000 people”. From the aerial photos I’ve seen, the operative words are “more than.” I’d say “more than”! It looked like at least a million people on the streets and sidewalks. The “100,000” figure is probably BBC wishful thinking.

we are being colonized by our former colonies

Indeed. Yet it is the same ruling class directing the colonization.

This is class warfare disguised as race warfare.

Is “far right” meant to be a slur?

It’s probably like the US where it means a middle of the road patriot now mislabeled.

Garbage news outlet.

“Tommy Robinson has been accused of using online misinformation to stoke anti-Muslim sentiment, “

What misinformation? The rape gangs? The violence and murders? The attacks on elderly citizens? The takeover of public spaces by hoards of illiterate unassimilated turds?

The only Muslim misinformation is that those demons are a benefit to anywhere they invade.

Those presently in power in England won’t be for much longer. King Charles may find himself the last royal arse to polish the seat of Saint Edward’s Chair.
