Residents want solutions to crime, but many who live here say aggressive federal law enforcement tactics threaten civil rights and instill a sense of fear, not safety.
Massive demonstrations with tens of thousands of people marching down Washington streets are as familiar as summer thunderstorms to generations of D.C. residents. But as President Donald Trump’s takeover of law enforcement in the District nears the 30-day mark, there have been noticeably few large-scale protests against it.
Resistance to Trump’s edict looks and sounds different this time. The pushback is personal.
Opponents of what they see as an authoritarian clampdown on the city are embracing impromptu demonstrations, including ringing bells in the masked faces of law enforcement, scribbling signs to warn drivers about ICE checkpoints, bombarding social media with footage of arrests, and employing art and humor to build consensus — and momentum.
A few small organized protests have taken place, and a march planned for Saturday is expected to draw several thousand people. But in the past several weeks nothing has approached the size and scale of the enormous demonstrations aimed at Trump during his first administration, including the Women’s March and the weeks of racial justice protests following the murder of George Floyd.
That’s partly by design, say activists who have been wary of calling for large demonstrations against Trump’s crackdown because of safety concerns and uncertainty about whether a peaceful protest will be met with force and widespread arrests. And, they say, because smaller efforts can be more fruitful right now.
“If a single massive protest could get could get rid of this man, it would have happened already, right? And so we have to think of different things,” said Alex Dodds, co-founder of Free DC, an organization formed earlier this year to protect home rule. “What fixes this is...

Some people just rather watch the world burn than admit they were wrong about anything.
Follow the money.
I was dwelling on that myself. Why would people not be willing to take measures to combat crime? If I had that level of crime in my town, where I knew multiple people who got carjacked downtown, houses were broken into in my neighborhood, people were getting shot and murdered… I would absolutely welcome the national guard into my town rather than these leftist jackasses that are running it.
This is a wishful peace by the Washington Post in my opinion. There aren’t large scale protests out there because people aren’t unhappy that crime is down.
I now believe that USAID was indeed a money laundering organization for the left. When I used to go down to all those protests down in Washington DC, we were always amazed at the rows upon rows of Greyhound buses that were parked. We often wondered where that money was coming from, who is paying for those buses. The money was coming from somewhere.
Not to mention all of the ready printed signs, and the box lunches that people had.
Now, after USAID has been shackled, I believe that we are seeing a visible drop off and left the Stat activity.
Imagine that, our own tax money, taken from us at the point of a gun, being used to put shackles on us. As Pete Hegseth would say…
“We’re done with that shit.”
They would have daily massive protests and mayhem if their USAID money were still flowing freely.
Re-established their pipelines through another route maybe?
Resistance to Trump’s D.C. crackdown is taking many forms
What would the response be if a group of angry conservatives were to throw cinderblocks through their plate glass windows, drag every lying reporter and reporterette outside and give them a severe beating, oh and just for fun, burn their cars.
Now for the icing on the cake: the conservatives find out where these liars live and whenever they lie about someone, show up at their residence, drag them out and give them a beat down.
(If such were to happen would they be squealing for the cops then?)
It would be a hoot if the cops flipped them bird and ignored them.
The protesting NPCs are the ones who just react as proper mindless puppets and refuse to take a moment of reflection and ask themselves why this isn't a good thing.
How much are they getting to protest?!
It’ll all lead back to a certain Hungarian nazi collaborator.
Most likely.
Bingo. Spot on.
Cut out the downtown office areas and give the rest back to MD.
What the article is saying is that there are not throngs of people in the thousands marching to rail against enforcing the laws government was created to enforce, that the “resistance” has been reduced to the fringe of psychotic loonies who just confirm that the whole anti-public safety movement was insane, and moreover, it is in the past.
