After his first arrest for sex crimes, Jeffrey Epstein tried to get into a new line of work: surveillance. In 2015, he partnered with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak to invest in a security tech startup called Reporty Homeland Security, now known as Carbyne. Leaked emails show that Epstein was using Barak to seek out opportunities in the surveillance industry and build connections with powerful figures around the globe, including American businessman Peter Thiel, the former director of Israeli signals intelligence, and two people in Russian President Vladimir Putin's circle.
After he was first caught sexually exploiting teenage girls, Epstein had pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution in 2008; he served a little over a year in detention. Meanwhile, he invested his wealth in bizarre projects, including a ranch to breed women with his DNA and "efforts to identify a mysterious particle that might trigger the feeling that someone is watching you," according to The New York Times.
The leaked emails show that Epstein was also interested in more mundane means of spying on and manipulating people, which overlapped with the technologies governments often pursue. This interest crossed borders.

The body they wheeled out had a different nose and ears than what Epstein had.
I was strongly suggesting he was hooked up with U.S. AND Israeli Intelligence, but some here tried to shout me down.
All that money didn’t come from just one source. I suspect Israel was collecting dirt for political leverage so as not to be left adrift like they were post WWII.

That Epstein was an “Israeli intelligence asset,” posing as a
sex trafficker, appears to stem from the following connections:
Robert Maxwell: Ghislaine Maxwell’s father, the late media mogul Robert Maxwell, is widely reported to have had ties to Israeli intelligence. His connection to Mossad was a factor in fueling suspicion about his daughter’s connections, and by extension, Epstein’s. Maxwell’s funeral was attended by present and former Mossad bigwigs, and a parade of high mucky muck Israeli officials. Robert Maxwell is buried on Israel’s most sacred ground-—the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. His body was found in the Atlantic Ocean in 1991, believed to have “fallen” off his yacht, after which he was given a lavish funeral by Israel.
Israeli Ehud Barak: Epstein had a close relationship with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, who was photographed visiting Epstein’s Manhattan residence. While Barak was accused of taking money from Epstein’s foundation, he has denied any involvement in wrongdoing.
In 2020, a former Israeli intelligence officer, Ari Ben-Menashe, claimed to have seen Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell working for Mossad decades earlier. An all-out effort was made to discredit Ben-Menashe, saying has a “controversial history” and has previously made “unverifiable claims.”
What is known about Epstein’s activities. Investigations have documented that Epstein sought to compile compromising information on powerful people for his own personal gain, and perhaps paid handsomely to collect dirt for Israel to use as political leverage, to reinforce Israel’s global footprint. This pattern of blackmail and coercion is generally seen as being consistent with criminal activities.
When Jeffrey Epstein died in 2019, his estate was valued at $577 million, including a portfolio of luxury real estate and over $380 million in cash and investments. Since then, however, legal payouts and sales have significantly reduced its value to an estimated $131–$200 million.
Filings from 2019 valued Epstein’s estate at $577 million, which he transferred into a private entity called “The 1953 Trust” two days before his death. His fortune included significant real estate holdings:

Status of the estate since 2019

His properties were sold for a total of about $160 million. Despite these payouts, the estate’s value has been bolstered by a key venture capital investment in Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures. Originally a $40 million stake, its value has increased to as much as $200 million.
In 2025, filings showed the estate’s total assets at about $131 million, including about $50 million in cash. However, these filings list some investments at their 2019 value, understating the total. Recent estimates place the estate’s current value between $150 and $200 million.
Epstein’s trust was created to keep the names of beneficiaries private. While the specific individuals are not publicly known, it is believed they may include his former girlfriend Karyna Shuliak, and his two longtime associates and estate executors, Darren Indyke and Richard Kahn. Between his collection of lavish homes, two private Caribbean Islands and nearly $380 million dollars in cash and investments, he was worth $578 million dollars. A joint development project. In January 2021, the DHS Science and Technology Directorate announced that Levitection, an Israeli company, and Liberty Defense Technologies, a US-based company, would develop a detection solution together.
Electromagnetic and AI technology. The project was focused on creating a system that uses electromagnetic imaging and artificial intelligence to detect threats and concealed items.
Wide-area threat detection. The goal was to develop a system for non-intrusive scanning in large, highly trafficked public spaces, such as transportation hubs, stadiums, casinos, hotels, and campuses.
Part of a broader initiative. The contract was part of the Binational Industrial Research and Development Homeland Security (BIRD HLS) program, which funds collaborations between American and Israeli companies to develop security technology.
Note on company status: Levitection, an Israeli startup founded by former Israeli weapons engineers, went out of business in 2022. One of its founders later started a similar company named Scanary.

In the aftermath of convicted sex offender and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein’s apparent suicide in a Manhattan jail, the focus has shifted to his inner circle in a scramble to uncover how exactly the multimillionaire made his money, the extent of his crimes, and who participated in his alleged misdeeds.
One of those in the 66-year-old’s inner circle, L Brands CEO Les Wexner — whose vast wealth Epstein managed — has reportedly been handing over documents to the authorities claiming Epstein misappropriated funds.
Meanwhile, Epstein’s longtime corporate attorneys, Darren Indyke and Jeffrey Schantz, have hired criminal defense attorneys, according to The New York Times.
A Yahoo Finance investigation reveals Indyke’s and Schantz’s deep involvement in Epstein’s business transactions and their personal relationships with the disgraced financier. Our findings suggest that Epstein was by far the lawyers’ biggest client. In fact, we were unable to find records of their work with any clients other than Epstein or his associates. Indyke’s signature in particular spans across numerous filings involving Eptein’s foundations, trusts, entities, and business dealings.
In Darren Keith Indyke’s 1982 senior yearbook, he wrote that in the year 2002 he would be “‘performing’ [his] first case for the Supreme Court quoting Al Pacino.” Instead, Indyke, who went on to graduate from Cornell Law School, was filing paperwork for Epstein.
Indyke, a 54-year-old Long Island native, has been by Epstein’s side since at least 1995, according to public records. Indkye’s name appears on charitable filings, real estate records, trademark filings, and other business matters related to Epstein and his inner circle.

He has also done work for Wexner and for the British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who has been accused in civil lawsuits of enabling Epstein’s exploitation of young girls. (She has not been criminally charged and denies wrongdoing.)
Indyke also signed a deed that certified the sale of a Palm Beach home that had belonged to the late Arnold Paul Prosperi, an associate of Epstein’s who visited him frequently in jail.
The day Epstein went to jail in July 2008, Indyke himself was there to visit — he visited his client at least 38 times over the 13-month period, according to jail logs. The documents that bear Indyke’s and Epstein’s names speak to where the latter hoped to exert or build his influence and how Indyke helped Epstein do so.
Indyke has been involved with virtually all of Epstein’s business dealings in the last two decades — his name appears as the treasurer and vice president of Epstein’s three most prominent nonprofits: The C.O.U.Q. Foundation, Gratitude America Ltd., and the J. Epstein Virgin Islands Foundation, also sometimes known as Enhanced Education. The latter two charitable giving organizations are registered in the U.S. Virgin Islands, while the C.O.U.Q. Foundation, defunct since 2012, was based in New York State.
The foundations’ giving records show donations to colleges, research foundations, and arts organizations. Other beneficiaries include the Clinton Foundation, Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, and the Edge Foundation, an educational research organization that recently scrubbed Epstein from its website.

The “intelligence” link: The Israeli propaganda machine is at Mach One speed to quash the idea that Epstein worked for Israeli intelligence (Mossad) that has circulated in media and among so-called “political opponents” of Barak. Former Israeli intelligence officials, as well as Ghislaine Maxwell, have naturally dismissed these claims.......but few believe the denials.
