Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced that the state will take action to crack down on “illegal aliens who may be operating large trucks using out-of-state driver’s licenses.”
On Monday, August 25, 2025, Uthmeier announced a series of actions targeting the commercial trucking industry and commercial driver’s licensing (CDL) standards amid ongoing public scrutiny of an August 12 triple fatality crash on the Florida Turnpike allegedly caused by an illegal U-turn taken by Harjinder Singh.
Ag Enforcement Officers To Man CMV Interdiction Stations Under ICE Direction
Uthmeier and other law enforcement agencies announced that Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) agents will be “stationing at interdiction checkpoints to work together with federal and state partners on immigration enforcement and checking for English proficiency for commercial drivers while continuing agricultural inspections.”
Officials say that “these interdiction stations, which are distinct from Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) weigh stations, will serve as critical enforcement points to stop human smuggling, fraudulent documents, and unsafe commercial vehicles.”

The “checkpoint” should be bars across roadways with signs detailing the height written in cursive English (no numbers). The drivers who can’t read cursive English will quickly find out their truck was too tall for the barrier.
Yep. Pull them all in and have a DOT officer waiting as they roll across the scale.
There should be the same on I-95 in Virginia.
Terrifying is the only word for a girl, and I mean girl trying to steer an 18 wheeler in the middle lane of I-95 out of DC four weeks ago.
No one could pass on either side because she could not keep the rig from encourching lane to lane. When I finally passed on the left lane, I could see a POC, very small young female with her forearms on the steering wheel trying to control the rig.

Supplement the this action with Federal legislation that a driver’s license requires proficiency in the English language. It is unconscionable to have person operating 4,000 - 80,000 missiles (cars and trucks) that are incapable of reading road signs.

Many trucks have electronic scales on them with transponders that allow them to bypass scales, so not every truck rolls onto the scales.

Didn’t know we still had weigh stations. I might have seen one open in all my many years. To be sure, illegals would be the first ones to run them especially those from CA who can’t read English.
You can bet every weigh station is already checking this now. This is in addition to the weigh stations.
Loads already can be impounded if you fail at the weigh station.
