Hungary Howls as Ukraine Strikes Key Pipeline
CEPA ^ | 19 Aug 25 | Aura Sanadus

Ukraine has struck the Druzhba pipeline carrying Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia, even as widening attacks indicating the war is spreading to the Eurasian landmass.

“The Druzhba oil pipeline is taking a rest,” crowed Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, Ukraine’s drone chief, on August 18. “Greetings from the Birds of the Unmanned Systems Forces.”

The strike, the second in less than a week, took out the 4,000km (2,500-mile) pipeline, bringing to an indefinite halt oil flows which had been supplying Central Europe via Ukraine and Belarus since the early 1960s.

The language was tongue-in-cheek, but the destruction of the Nikolskoye oil pumping station in Russia’s Tambov region by Ukraine’s 14th Drone Regiment was hardly a laughing matter, especially for Hungary and Slovakia, which have an established addiction to cheap Russian energy.

The two Kremlin-friendly states, the only remaining buyers of Russian oil, lashed out, claiming the latest attack on their energy security was “outrageous and unacceptable.”

Ukraine has a poor relationship with both countries and little reason to consider their feelings, given their record of blocking aid to Kyiv within the European Union (EU). So the attack may have been partly intended as payback for this, and for Hungary’s refusal, alone among EU members, to co-sign a statement supportive of Ukraine ahead of US President Donald Trump’s summit in Alaska with Vladimir Putin on August 15.

But there are broader implications. The attack was arguably part of a much wider and sophisticated geopolitical battle that is now being fought out from Central Asia in the east to the heart of Europe in the west…..

Well, well, well….the Ukies bombing Hungary oil pipelines. The EU is fracturing, quite ironic, the EU wanted to break up Russia, but the EU breaks up instead!

Hungary has not forgotten about Trianon.

Some of that land that was given to Czechoslovakia, wound up going to then Soviet Ukraine.

Wonder how long the Hungarians will continue supplying the bulk of Ukraine’s electricity going into the fall?

The Yooks just carried out an act of war against a NATO country.

Unless I misread the article, Ukraine bombed the “Nikolskoye oil pumping station in Russia’s Tambov region” not a Hungary oil pipeline. Is Ukraine’s attempt to cut off Russian oil income now off limits?

Please note, I have no dog in this fight. It would be nice to have the killing and destruction end, but neither side seems to want to stop.

This is Ukraine attacking NATO.

If Russia did it, it would be casus belli.

The pumping station was within Russia’s borders...I don’t agree with the strike but it wasn’t located in Hungary from what I can find.

Well, President Biden helped Ukraine with blowing up Germany's Nordstream pipelines from Russia, so of course everyone is happy with this. Biden showed the way, so you are correct, it's all good.

Wasn’t Czechoslovakia part of the Austrian Empire part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire?

So, when Russia attacks Ukraine, it’s just an understandable part of war.

But, when Ukraine attacks Russia, it’s a provocation that should cause all NATO countries to attack Russia?

Got it. I guess. Sigh....

I looked into this and Hungary supplies 40% of Ukes power. Yet another example of Uke ingrates biting the hand that feeds them. There are no good guys in this fight, we should have abandoned our involvement on Jan 21.
