Russia Boosts The Taliban's Quest For Legitimacy. Who Will Be Next?
RadioFreeEurope ^

Posted on 08/16/2025 2:47:21 PM PDT by USA-FRANCE

The Taliban's four-year quest for legitimacy received a major boost last month when Russia became the first country to formally recognize the group's rule in Afghanistan. While the Kremlin's decision is largely symbolic, it could still yield strategic benefits for Moscow. Recognition allows Russia to project itself as a bold global power unafraid to challenge Western norms, especially after setbacks in regions like the Middle East. By taking the initiative, Moscow aims to restore its reputation as an agenda-setter in international affairs, potentially encouraging other nations -- particularly in Central Asia -- to follow suit and normalize ties with the Taliban.

Apparently Russia's closest allies: Iran, North Korea, China, aren't enough for Putin... Now he is now cozying up with the remaining enemies of America, like Afghanistan... Russia is the first country to formally recognize the Taliban's rule in Afghanistan, boosting the group's quest for legitimacy.

And let's not forget that Russia is already supporting Hamas and Hezbollah and is opposing Trump's and Netanyahu's push for a Gaza takeover by Israel.

Day by day, Putin is woking behind Trump's back fomenting a globalist anti-American front based on neo-sovietism, Islamism and Communism.

Wasn’t it Trump who made arrangements to turn Afghanistan over to the Taliban?

Funny-

Aren’t you one of those that likes to use the word “Propaganda” constantly?

Radio Free Europe is literally (the textbook definition) government paid for propaganda.

All sides play the Muslims to their advantage against their opponent.

We did so through most the Cold War and helped sponsor the expansion of Madrases, backed Afghan militia’s, and yes even supported AQ when it served our benefit. OBL was backed by us as well (multiple first hand sources provided): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegations_of_CIA_assistance_to_Osama_bin_Laden

Not to long ago, we were backing whack-jobs in Syria (may still be, who knows, we aren’t to transparent these days), and in Libya to do our dirty work.

Jake Sullivan (former US national security adviser): “AQ is on our side in Syria.” https://www.wikileaks.org/clinton-emails/emailid/23225

https://geopoliticaleconomy.com/2024/12/06/al-qaeda-rebels-syria-israel-usa/ And that’s AFTER 9-11. LOL

“The enemy of your enemy is your friend.” Maybe people like you should have thought about that when you opened that door as you went against a nation like Russia.

They can play the proxy war game: they have a war industrial base, a real intel service with global reach, the logistics and communication capabilities, a military that can send advisers/trainers...

Yemen is only the opening salvo, Afghanistan, and many more are to come.

In Iraq, pick a group: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_militias_in_Iraq (They all hate us)

It takes a while to get the wheels rolling.

In all fairness, President Trump invited the Syrian Islamist Al-Shara to the WH, a known terrorist.

“ How Syrian president Ahmed al-Sharaa went from wanted ‘terrorist’ to Trump approval…”

“Russia Boosts The Taliban’s Quest For Legitimacy. Who Will Be Next?”

Sure be nice if the US had SOME INFLUENCE on Russian policy...eh...wait a minute...that may be the case, as Trump had a really good meeting with Mr. Putin just yesterday.

Where do you think the Kadyrov units originated from??? They were on the ground with the Taliban in 2021, giving GRU and SVR assistance to the Taliban push there.

Radio Free Europe is a radical leftist and Globalist propaganda outlet. Extremely Anti-American.

Remember that we regard Saudi Arabia as an ally. Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s biggest sponsors of terrorism and is responsible for spreading Islam in US and Western schools.

Saudi Arabia was also responsible for 9/11.

“Radio Free Europe is a communist front.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Exactly, thank you for noticing. And that’s the very reason I posted it.
Since Russia is part of the Islamo-Communist Alliance composed of IRAN, North Korea, China, Belarus... thus, if a Communist outlet is admitting that NeoSoviet Russia (the leader of the Islamo-Commie Alliance) is recognizing the Talibans, it must be true, right? And that way it will not be classified as “Western propaganda”, by a few pro-Russians here on FR. :)

It’s important to note that those who support NeoSoviet Russia are de facto supporting the whole “Islamo-Commie package” (Iran, North Korea and China), you can’t cherrypick here...

>>>

Now here are more conventional outlets saying the same thing about the NeoSoviets very recently recognizing the Taliban terrorist organization :

Hear me out. Are we better off having the Taliban run the nearly ungovernable Afghanistan and have them inside our tent pissing out, instead of outside pisding inwards? Maybe we are doing this wrong. We should lease Bagrham Sp afb from them and partner with them? We could solve their water issues and use them to stomp.out heroin production and sales, offering them help developing valuable mineral extraction and export instead? Strike a deal to improve life for the average person there and be friends rather than uneasy opponents?

I understand what you mean, but here is the thing...

The Taliban protected Osama bin Laden, who orchestrated the largest terrorist attack on American soil since World War II and Pearl Harbor. As a result, the United States invoked NATO’s Article 5, leading to the deployment of thousands of American and European troops to Afghanistan, including thousands of French soldiers, of whom approximately 100 lost their lives. Over 2,500 U.S. troops died. Attacking Afghanistan was the right decision, as the United States and its NATO allies acted in self-defense after the Taliban refused to surrender Bin Laden after 911 — an inexcusable act.

The Taliban have proven incapable of contributing anything constructive. The subsequent attempt at nation-building in Afghanistan was a mistake, given the Taliban’s chaotic and archaic mentality, which rendered such efforts futile.

However, abandoning the Bagram Air Base entirely was a CRAZY move; maintaining a permanent presence there would have been strategically sound for America’s interests.

The immense loss of American lives caused by the Taliban and their allies, Al Qaeda, will take generations to fully process. Recent Russian engagement with the Taliban is therefore a blatant disrespect to the memory of the American and allied victims of the Taliban’s actions and their close ties with Al Qaeda.
