Sherrod Brown gives Democrats jolt of enthusiasm in Ohio

Democrats are making a play for Ohio in next year’s Senate race as former Sen. Sherrod Brown prepares an expected comeback attempt.

The Buckeye State was once firmly purple but has become increasingly red in the Trump era. President Trump won the state in 2024 with 55 percent of the vote, and Brown lost his bid for reelection to Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), winning 46.5 percent of the vote.

Those totals show Brown was much more popular with Ohio voters than former President Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris, and Democrats think a lower-turnout midterm election could carry him to victory.

“When Trump is on the ballot, as Sherrod painfully found out, it’s hard to win, because his turnout is high, and he ends up spiking turnout in red parts of the state,” said David Pepper, a former state Democratic Party chair who led the party during Brown’s last successful run in 2018.

But Pepper noted Trump won’t be on the ballot next year, and he said a hidden trend has been conservative-leaning counties not being quite as solidly Republican in some elections more recently.

“If that continues to be a trend in ‘26, all of a sudden Ohio is a winnable state for good Democratic candidates,” he said.

Democrats back losers. Robert Francis O’Rourke, Sherrod Brown, that fat black lady in Georgia.

Democrat politicians make their careers even when failing. In what other vocation can you do that? Ain’t America great?

Shrod was there for 18 years and did nothing except vote the way he was told. Useless. Just another grafter hopiing for one more time at the trough.

I was never so happy about an election as when Moreno beat Brown. Sherrod is too old. Btw where’s Tim Ryan? My second happy moment when Vance best Ryan, the golden boy.

“Brown lost his bid for reelection,
his opponent won w/ 46.5%.”
Slap some lipstick on that pig, and you have a winning candidate.

Moreno won with 50.1% of the vote. It was Brown who got 46.5%.

“But Pepper noted Trump won’t be on the ballot next year, and he said a hidden trend has been conservative-leaning counties not being quite as solidly Republican in some elections more recently.”

Watching our rural conuties being turned into thousands of acres of solar panels and low income multiplex housing is one reason. Watching every stream or river lands in this state being “being taken over” by national “conservation” 30x30 plan non-profits is another. Watching mental cases that trespass on our properties on a daily basis not being arrested is another. I could go on and on...

I’ll go ahead and predict we will lose the death penalty in the next couple of years.

Desperation.

I could be wrong but I don’t see Dems winning Ohio senate seat.. no matter who they run.

Sadly though Ohio seems ready to put a completely fraudster in its governorship.. Ohio you deserve far better than Vivek,if you collectively fall for him, you will get burned.. you hav been warned

Absolutely right about the snake Vivek. I love reading about the little kids and their 4h projects in my rural county. Farm kids making it real. They put on a gift basket drive for veterans recently that brought tears to my eyes. And the repukes are going to promote a vegan as governor. I don’t think so. We won’t be fooled again.

Let Vivek have his way as a big state governor and let him prove his POTUS bonafides the same way DeSantis is doing.

We can’t let up folks...
We HAVE to turn out, in 2026 and 2028, with the same fervor we showed in 2024. This is our chance to drive the democrats out, hopefully, for good, and the rinos out of the party.
We have to do this- the life of America is on the line.

Vance's replacement Jon Husted has been in Ohio politics for ~25 years. He was speaker of the house, secretary of state and Lt. Gov when he was appointed to replace Vance. He has solid credentials having won 2 state wide elections.
