"People shouldn’t come to Washington to get rich, they should come to serve the American people," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is calling for a single-stock trading ban in Congress.
“I am going to start pushing for a single-stock trading ban, because it is the credibility of the House and the Senate, that you look at some of these eye-popping returns – whether it is Rep. Pelosi, Senator Wyden – every hedge fund would be jealous of them. And the American people deserve better than this,” Bessent told Bloomberg TV on Wednesday.
Nancy Pelosi, of California, and Ron Wyden, are Democrats.
Congressional Republicans including Georgia Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene, has also come under scrutiny. She recently disclosed stock trades made just before President Trump announced a 90-day pause on tariffs, prompting accusations of potential insider trading.
Greene told the Associated Press that she does not manage her own portfolio and that her investments are handled by a financial adviser. She also said all trades are disclosed in compliance with federal transparency requirements.
“People shouldn’t come to Washington to get rich, they should come to serve the American people, and it brings down trust in the system because I can tell you that if any private citizen traded this way, the [Securities and Exchange Commission] would be knocking on their door,” he continued.
Pelosi has long been criticized for her husband's highly successful trades, which she is required to report in financial disclosures.
Pelosi spokesperson Ian Krager told The Hill news outlet in response to Bessent, “Speaker Pelosi does not own any stocks and has no knowledge or subsequent involvement in any transactions.”
Wyden’s stock portfolio had a 123.8 percent gain last year, according to data from the financial analysis platform Unusual Whales.

Really like Scott Bessent, he speaks the truth and names names.
He needs a food taster.
““I am going to start pushing for a single-stock trading ban, because it is the credibility of the House and the Senate...”
This is a joke. It can’t happen. Even if the rule if voted in, family members will just put the stocks in their names just like a POTUS is required to do upon entering office. Nothing will change.

Both of them do the second one.
It will never pass because too many in Congress do it and get wealthy.
The only way to keep our Public Servants honest is to keep an eye on them 24/7/365. Today we have the technology to do that with body cams and security cams.
Jefferson stated that when a man (person) puts themselves forward for a public trust (public servant) that they give up all rights to privacy. For how else can the public judge their worthiness for such a trust.
There are plenty of Republican swamp creatures who engage in this corrupt practice too. Ban it for all of them. It will make them more likely to quit at some point to get real jobs.
Great! But how to stop proxy traders working for the DC criminals is going to be difficult if not impossible. However, that will likely leave a paper trail but I’m sure there’s a work around for that to.
PELOSI KNOWS PERFECTLY WELL THAT CALIF IS A COMMUNITY PROPERTY STATE..
CLAIMING SHE DOESN’T OWN ANY STOCK IS A PURE LIE
SHE KEEPS SAYING ‘THE STOCKS BELONG TO HER HUSBAND PAUL’.
Oh, you mean something like Josh Hawley’s PELOSI Act?
What is gaslighting? THIS is gaslighting.
A generally good - but imperfectly (he’s got some problems with giveaways in other policy areas) proposed a GOOD piece of legislation that did PRECISELY this.
And what did he get for his trouble? Bashed by DJT as “second tier” and all sorts of other nonsense.
So spare me.
This kind of thing makes me absolutely sick. Gaslighting. All sizzle, no steak. Talk the talk, walk the walk. Pick a cliche.
Hawley’s bill was a GOOD bill and did EXACTLY what Bessent NOW CLAIMS he wants to *push for*.
Makes me want to completely vomit about the ridiculous doublespeak.
Hawley is my Senator. He came from out of nowhere, which means there is a puppetmaster somewhere in the background. Everything you said about Bessent goes double for Hawley. His bill never had a snowball’s chance in Hell and he knew it, which is why his puppetmaster told him to sponsor it.
Yeah, yeah.
He “came from nowhere”. Meaning, his daddy wasn’t famous and some celebrity didn’t vouch for him.
He was only valedictorian of his HS. Phi Beta Kappa at Stanford. Law Review at Yale. Interned at the Heritage Foundation. Clerked for a Supreme Court justice. Worked for a top 10 law firm. Then worked as legal counsel for the Becket Foundation for Religious Liberty.
But you’re right.
He never hosted a gameshow. Never had a podcast. Never had a twitter/instagram account wearing an American flag suit.
So obviously, *HE* is the flimflam man.
He was a law clerk for John Roberts, which tells you everything you need to know.
It tells me I could put a sack of potatoes in an American flag bikini, stitch in a looped audio recording of a few simple clips of meaningless pablum and bloviating bashing of the few names, and you’d not only vote for it — but also let it lift your wallet and then praise it as the height of conservatism.
