Kaiser Permanente plans to pause surgical gender-affirming care for patients under 19 beginning Aug. 29. The health care provider confirmed the change to SFGATE and said the decision was made due to “significant risks” stemming from escalating federal scrutiny under President Donald Trump’s administration.
In January, Trump issued an executive order titled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation” which directed federal agencies to roll back funding, coverage and legal protections for gender-affirming care.
In a statement, Kaiser said it made the “difficult decision” to pause surgical care for patients under 19 after consulting with internal and external experts in response to the ongoing federal pressure.
Kaiser stressed that all other forms of gender-affirming care — including puberty blockers, hormone therapy and mental health support — remain available to patients under 19.
On Tuesday, the country’s largest nursing union, National Nurses United, which represents nearly 25,000 nurses at Kaiser facilities, blasted the move as “pre-emptively giving into government overreach.”
“Medical providers, not politicians, know what’s best for our patients,” Lady Rainsard, a nurse at Kaiser San Francisco, said in the union’s statement. “Gender-affirming care is safe and effective. As nurses, we always follow the precautionary principle, and we always advocate for our patients. Right now, we deem it a much greater risk to cave to this kind of government overreach than it is to provide this care to our patients, no matter their age.”
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles shut down its transgender health center this summer out of fear of losing crucial federal funding. Providers across the country — including Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., Denver Health in Colorado, and NYU Langone in New York — have limited their gender-affirming programs to comply with the federal directive.

Oh, but mutilating children is NOT a gov’t overreach, right Nurses Union?
Sheesh ... unions are the bane of society, these days, pushing and demanding such horrific procedures and actions.
Demon people.
Just because of Trump your going to stop your mutilation of children ,Hurray for Trump!!!
"surgical gender-affirming care"
Which ultimately means a lifetime of big pharma drugs, other medical procedures and endless $$$$$ medical bills
They should take a vote of their members. Guessing the membership would not vote for this statement.

Gender “affirming”....... They mean body alterations. Its “ XX” or “XY”. No “X?”. No amount of altering is gonna change that.
Depraved people.
Correct. Sick, sick, sick. And then to call it ‘gender affirming’, when the obvious fact is that the ‘procedure’ does quite the opposite. Pure evil.
Agree.
They never seem to take a vote of their members ... well, at least not truly secret votes.
But, keep paying those dues, members.
And how many lives will they ruin in the 30-some-odd days between now and then?
Just stop NOW.
“”decision was made due to “significant risks” stemming from escalating federal scrutiny””
Well, that’s a good reason to give up it up - not because it is harmful? Just think of the money we’d lose! Can’t have that.

Citing “federal risks”? Really? How about citing the fact that you are mutilating kids? Or the fact that kids are confused and easily swayed by Woke parents with an agenda?
Headline is a little startling - I thought the Kaiser abdicated in 1919!
I was scared. I thought it was Kizer Sose!
They’ll still pump kids full of castration drugs, though.
