Dozens of anti-Israel rabble-rousers were slapped with hefty suspensions and a handful were fully expelled after they took part in the recent violent takeover of a campus library and last year’s notorious tent encampment, The Post has learned.
More than 70 students are set to be punished for their involvement in the hugely disruptive Butler Library chaos that unfolded on May 7, as well as the encampment that popped up on the Morningside Heights campus in spring 2024, sources familiar with the disciplinary action said.
Roughly two-thirds of those will be hit with suspensions between one and three years, with the majority being hit with two-year suspensions, the sources said.
Those involved were informed of their punishments on Monday following a probe by the elite school’s University Judicial Board.
“Our institution must focus on delivering on its academic mission for our community. And to create a thriving academic community, there must be respect for each other and the institution’s fundamental work, policies, and rules,” a Columbia spokesperson said in a statement.
“Disruptions to academic activities are in violation of University policies and Rules, and such violations will necessarily generate consequences. The speed with which our updated UJB system has offered an equitable resolution to the community and students involved is a testament to the hard work of this institution to improve its processes.”
It comes after the Ivy League slapped scores of students with interim suspensions soon after a mob of demonstrators stormed the elite school’s library — disrupting students who were attempting to cram for final exams.
The keffiyeh-clad agitators were caught on camera chanting “Free, free Palestine” as they beat drums and clapped loudly.
Some protestors defaced the library walls, marked tables with tape and unfurled Palestinian flags throughout the five-hour ordeal.

They should be expelled.
Columbia finally grew a pair...under duress.
Notice how self congratulatory they are about being forced to condemn islamo nazis.
Alvin Bragg wouldn’t prosecute them so I am glad Colombia finally did something about it. I expect it is happening because President Trump put the screws to them.
Comes the dawn....
I think we can proudly say, “Trump’s fault” on this one.
Indeed.
The prior administration was protecting them.
Under the current administration, Columbia is reading the tea leaves and trying to stay ahead of fiscal punishment.
Will future employers know the names?
I first read it as “grew a pair under dress”. My bad.
The students who were suspended will be barred from campus for one to three years and have to submit a formal apology, according to protest group Columbia University Apartheid Divest. The sanctions were confirmed by the school, which added that some students were put on probation, while others had their degrees revoked.
IF you are suspended, do you apply to another college and will they accept you?
The first requires that students submit a “statement of reflection” on the disruptive takeover, including “the impact on students trying to study.” The other directs them to write letters to Butler staff and janitors who were tasked with cleaning the library afterward.
ai, write me an apology on the above.
How about the “students” who locked the custodians in a closet? Isn’t that illegal?
I only wish they actually woke up to see the truth about the protestors. They do not mean well
Good start, but more is required.
If they are here on foreign student visas, I hope ICE immediately expels them from our country.
Exactly but I’m wondering where they found the manhood to take even this action?
There must be something in it for them.
Federal funds.
Me, too, but these days, that's probably not too far off.
Good grief, how jaded I've become.
Kidnapping is.
They should be charged with it.
