If Zohran Mamdani Sinks the Democrats, So What?

What’s wrong with New Yorkers electing Zohran Mamdani mayor? Seriously. He’s a socialist, isn’t he? He’ll wreck New York City, you say. But didn’t that process start with Bill DeBlasio? Do you think that process ends electing Andrew Cuomo or Eric Adams? Perennial candidate Curtis Silwa is a savior? Hasn’t socialism been the road Democrats have been traveling for decades? When Mamdani’s socialist experiment crashes and burns, maybe it’ll persuade New Yorkers to abandon Democrats. Maybe independents decide to swing Republican.

JFK-style liberals began vanishing after Kennedy’s assassination. Mamdani’s election would make it obvious what should be obvious. Liberalism, progressivism -- call it whatever -- is a ruse. The Democrat Party tilts full Left. Trends are making it more so. Mamdani will pursue an agenda that’s part utopian drivel, Soviet-style top-down, and plenty of Cuban incompetence leading to dysfunctional public services, higher costs, and increasing scarcity. Dead Russians and living Cubans can testify to what glorious utopia brings.

A broken Democrat Party is a public necessity. Big failure means bigger brokenness. Let’s not hear nonsense from “good government” Republicans that a healthy two-party system profits the nation. Life isn’t a civics class. Franklin Roosevelt didn’t give a damn about anything other than healthy Democrat dominance. Jacksonian Democrats and Lincoln and McKinley Republicans believed no differently. When did Republicans go softheaded?

Let dogmatic Democrats stumble in the wilderness for a generation or more. A Trumpian sea change completes in two ways: the president keeps racking up Ws and Democrats continue to misgovern, driven by extreme policies.

Yeah, the Dems are walking a fine tightrope. They have to pretend that they like the radical left, while still begging for money from centrist donors. The right is behind Trump 95% with some loser never-trumpers that don’t mean much, but the dems are facing a mid-term election where, if they don’t do well, it could mean an ascendant radical left that splits from the dems completely and basically makes them the new whig party.

To even ask a question like that is foolish. Who cares if the Dems “learn their lesson”, when the immediate effect will be giving a proudly anti-Jew Muslim a huge power base in one of America’s biggest and most influential cities.
The majority of Dems never really learn their lesson, or admit to it. We see that right now, since last November.

This will/would be a very dangerous development. I would take no solace of ‘seeing those voters get what they voted for’ in New York, all the while other large Blue urban areas will be scrambling to copy that example of virtue signaling:
“Look over here! We just elected a Muslim as our mayor too. See how open minded and progressive we are here?”
They too would be anti police and anti locking dangerous people up.

In the old Constitutional, sound-money, small government, low-debt, low-tax USA, NY City could, in theory, destroy itself with some version of rabid wokeism and socialism, and it would not at all affect the rest of the nation.

Indeed, it never happened because of exactly those conditions.

In 2025 America, NY City is supported by Wall Street’s financialization and massive US Government welfare and debt in our printed, fiat money. While undeserved, NY City is a political, media and cultural capital of the USA

So yes - Mamdani will take-down NY City, but the whole nation will pay for it, both financially and politically.

Moreover, having a neo-marxist recent immigrant as head of America’s largest city will only radicalize other cities as well.

This could be the rock bottom the left needs to become a more functional, pragmatic political party.

There's this bizarre hope that the Democrat Party will somehow "come to its senses."

NO - some individuals might leave the Democrat Party, but the Party will move hard left, and chaos will encourage and enable a minority of true radicals to take control of the shell of the party and apparatus of government - and use that to expand. Think how the the Bolsheviks, who almost no one supported in 1917, took over the whole of Russia.

Nothing will cause the 68% of New Yorkers who vote Democrat to change to vote any differently. They are too arrogant and self impressed to question their own choices or to attempt to link their political choices with the consequences of their actions. They might vote for a different Democrat next time or much worse move to Florida, Texas, etc and bring their voting habits with them thus spreading the plague of Democratism and ruining more of the country. There ought to be a border wall that runs along the PA border from Lake Erie around to western MD and then follows the Potomac down to the Chesapeake and out to the Atlantic and people North and East of the border were only allowed to cross the border to visit.

If he becomes mayor of NYC, he’ll take it down with him. It’s pretty close right now, it’ll just take one shove and down it goes.

One of my sons is a union carpenter, working in a Manhattan local. During the first Trump administration he was working constantly, until the COVID lockdowns hit. During the Biden years he had very little work. Within a few weeks after the Trump reelection, he began getting a lot of work, continuing to this day.

But I'm warning him, if this commie is elected in New York City, all bets are off; businesses will flee as they did under Biden.
