Global warming! Trump is to blame (see how I avoided the pun: Trump’s Fault?)
Everyone OK? Any sloshing?
Los Angeles will eventually be transported by faults to the Gulf of Alaska. They won’t get any relief from natural disasters.
As an ex-California dweller, I know that a 7.3 is very serious. Windows break, front walls of houses may separate from side walls. That happened to a friend of mine and she called the contractors the minute it hit. Those who didn’t call right away had to wait weeks for repairs.
7.4 is pretty healthy
Where would a tsunami from that area be likely to hit?
The good news... Nobody lives there.
How far from Adak is that?
My father-in-law is up fishing in Alaska as we speak. I don’t know exactly where but somewhere between Ketchikan and Sitka.
It would be a shame if something happened to him...
Sounds like you have harsh feelings for your FIL. Let me tell you about my MIL.
“It would be a shame if something happened to him...”
I can’t tell if you’re serious or you left off the SAR tag.
It would be... I will say a prayer for him.
If he’s camping and not in a poorly built structure, he will likely be fine. Being out in the open is the best place to be during an earthquake... Being in a poorly constructed structure is the worst place to be.
Some fancy fishing lodge
thank you. I forgot the sarc tag.
Russian gave it a 6.9
40 years ago or so I was sailing along the Aleutians. I was relieving the second mate for watch when he pointed out the shipwreck with “Note B” on the chart. The navy had done an experiment where they filled an old cargo ship with explosives and set a charge to go off when it sunk to a predetermined depth. The ship never got to that depth and just drifted along under water at a thousand feet depth or so and finally came to rest along one of the Aleutian Islands at that depth. He finished up saying “And there it is, Note B”.
My vague recollection was “Note B” was in approximation to this earthquake.
This is the closest live camera I could find to the earthquake, Raspberry Island near Kodiak island.
The water level has gone up very slightly in the past few minutes, probably due to the normal tides.
