A diversity day at a secondary school in Warwickshire ended in upset and apologies after a 12-year-old girl wearing a union flag dress was prevented from delivering a speech she had written about British culture.
Pupils at Bilton school in the village of Bilton, Rugby, were invited to take part in “culture day”, dedicated to “recognising and celebrating the rich cultural diversity within our school community”. Children were encouraged to wear outfits that reflected their nationality or family heritage to the event last Friday. ............................. In a post on Facebook last Friday, Field wrote: “On my way to collect my daughter from school. She’s currently being made to sit at reception waiting for me. The reason? It’s cultural diversity day at school where children can wear clothing representing their culture and write a speech about their heritage. She’s been told it’s not for her as she gets to celebrate being British every day.”

The school later issued an apology:
“We deeply regret the distress this has caused and offer our sincere and unreserved apologies. We have since spoken directly with the pupil and her family to listen to their concerns and reflect on how this could have been handled better. We are committed to learning from this experience and ensuring that every student feels recognised and supported when expressing pride in their heritage.”
I don’t get it. Why would they ban the British Union flag? Upsetting to moose limbs?
Wouldn’t have happened a few years ago, she and her parents would simply been dismissed as racists and that would be that.
The backlash is growing and many people are starting to experience the wrath of conservative cancel culture posing as much of a threat to their careers and social standing as progressive left cancel culture has over the past decade or so.
Maybe the fact Reform will almost certainly form the next government makes many people know the writing is on the wall and they’d better stop appeasing the left because they are not going to be their biggest problem going forward.

It is also pretty racist of the teachers to say that "She gets to be British every day". To me, British culture also includes Chicken Tikka masal (invented in Britain), etc. And the UK has welcomed Huguenots, Poles, Indians etc and all with the exception of many Mohammedans, have integrated well into British society.
To tell Meera Syal she isn't British or Disraeli that he wasn't British is just wrong.
Diversity should also include diversity within the UK. A Brummie has differences in language and cultur from a person from Sussex, from West coun6, from Yorkshire, leave alone the Welsh and Scots.
The UK is not a nation state but wonderfully diverse.

Muslim students (if there were any at that school) probably didn’t even give a !@#$. It was almost certainly the white Leftists that got their thongs in wad.
The “school” would have preferred she wore a burka.
They shouldn't have handled it at all, that's how they should have handled it better.
The young girl has been identified. Identify the teacher responsible.
Look at the dress, it has an Empire waist!

This is part of the problem. The parents should demand that an apology is not enough. It is not as if the school simply made some careless remark on a social media post - they physically prevented this young person from celebrating her culture. This is a clear case of discrimination and a criminal act in 21st century Britain (the Equality Act 2010). Instead of spending their days scanning social media, I would like to see the police turn up at this school and arrest whoever was responsible!
