I hate to burst anyone’s bubble, but a $343 billion swing in net surplus, from May to June, isn’t explained by a $4 billion swing in tariff revenues. Hint: June is the month of quarterly estimated tax payments.

I thought July was quarterly tax payments.

Either ways it's been eight years since we've had a June surplus.

The National Debt is now at $36 trillion. A “surplus” is when you have money left after all debts are either paid or accounted for.

The US has no surplus, regardless of a one month spike in revenue. The US won’t be able to have a real surplus for decades to come, if ever.

AI:

As of May 2025, the federal government’s budget deficit for fiscal year (FY) 2025 was $1.4 trillion, which is 7% higher than the same time last year after adjusting for timing effects.
The cumulative fiscal year 2025 deficit reached $1.4 trillion at the end of May 2025.

Given this 27B surplus for June, that reduces $1.4T to $1.373T deficit to date for FY2025. Still 3 months of deficit yet to add for July, August, September.

Monthly deficit in May = $316 Billion. Monthly surplus in June = $27 Billion.
Tariff revenue in May = $23 Billion. Tariff revenue in June = $27 Billion.
Month over month change in net deficit = $343 billion.
Month over month change in tariff revenue = $4 billion.
But you want us to believe that a $4 billion increase in tariff revenue explains a $343 billion change in the net deficit. Okay...

Here are some more numbers from the Treasury website

Net receipts May = $371,229 M
Net receipts June = 526,445 M

So June receipts higher than May by $155 billion. $4 billion of the increase came from increased tariff revenues.

(Outlays from May to June went down by $187 billion. Other than delayed impact of DOGE, I have no idea why that would be.)

For 2025, the quarterly estimated tax payment due dates are as follows:
April 15,
June 16,
September 15,
and January 15 of the following year

They are NOT evenly spaced at three month intervals!

Never have been.

My guess is that the “big jump” in collections was that quarterly estimated taxes were due June 16th.

“flowing to illegals , undocumented, phantom enrollees, other...”

You might be surprised how much is the dead that you missed in your list. Vote isn’t the only thing they do.

You might be surprised how much Waste,Fraud,Abuse is going to the Deloitte’s of the swamp.

And note, Medicaid is the big one...and none of it goes to the recipients...it goes to IT, insurance companies, Hospitals and Providers.

It does not benefit the poor to have 2 medicaid memberships, one as Mary, one as Maria. But the doctor can “honestly” say he treated Mary and he treated Maria and bill each Medicaid ID separately. The hospital can do million dollar HIV procedures on both Patricia and Patrick, each of whom has a separate ID... but are the same person.
